MIS 460 / MIS 561 Lab – Encryption - Kleopatra Lab – Part 2 – Decrypting a Message The objectives of this lab are to: Practice decryption using Kleopatra. Use asymmetric encryption. Understand the roles public and private keys play in encryption and decryption. 1 To Decrypt the message 1.1 Check your email for a message from the Teaching Assistant and download it. 1.2 Using Kali, start Kleopatra. 1.3 On the Kleopatra toolbar, click Decrypt/Verify. 1.4 Navigate to the encrypted file you received from the TA (the file extension, if visible, will display .gpg), select it, and then click Open. 1.5 On the passphrase window, provide the password. 1.6 Which password are you providing (person, public/private)? 1.6.1 Answer: _____My private___________________ Lab - Creating Your Virtual Environment Page 1 of 2
MIS 460 / MIS 561 Lab – Encryption - Kleopatra 1.7 Take a screenshot of the result message and place it in the table below. 1.8 On the Decrypt/Verify Files window, click Save All. 1.9 Using the graphic above, describe what happened: 1.9.1 Answer: Kleopatra decrypted the encrypted message received from Betsy and now I can read the text 1.10 Depending on whether you have the TA’s certificate saved and certified and depending on whether the message was signed, you may see a different result dialog box. You only need the code to send back to the TA to get credit for decrypting the message. 1.11 Email the secret number in plain text to the TA.
