Three key takeaways you gained and learned from the article
The COVID-19 pandemic has instigated a significant shift towards remote manufacturing
industry work. Many workers have found a better work-life balance working from home and
might resist returning to the previous norm. This new mode of operation isn't just about
offshoring repeatable tasks; with technological advancement, high-value-added tasks can also be
done remotely. This shift means fewer business travels, focusing more on meaningful discussions
and relationship building. It represents a change in the services business model.
The push for environmental sustainability is becoming a central disruptive business concern. A
notable effect was the clearing skies over industrial cities during lockdowns, indicating reduced
emissions due to less travel. Although there was an initial surge in single-use plastics during the
pandemic, innovations have emerged, leading to more environmentally friendly products related
to COVID. Sustainability goals align with the new remote working trend, further promoting it as
an environmentally conscious choice.
The Need for Agility and Preparing for Disruptions: given the unpredictable nature of global
events, such as trade wars, political changes, and pandemics, companies must focus on becoming
more agile. Implementing contingency and risk planning is crucial for businesses to prepare for
unforeseen challenges. Quick returns on investments, adaptable remote working models, and
shorter project timelines are essential components of this new agile approach. The rise of
analytics will play a pivotal role in helping companies anticipate, respond to, and capitalize on
trends. Modern software solutions will be instrumental in analyzing data for effective decision-
making, ranging from long-term strategies to immediate operational adjustments.

Author's Views Versus My Views
I agree with the author on the need for businesses to be agile and prepare for disruptions. As
mentioned in t
he article
"preparing for the next disruption" resonates deeply. Recent events have
unequivocally shown that disruptions, be they environmental, political, or health-related, can
arise unpredictably and have far-reaching implications. It is no longer adequate for businesses to
respond to disruptions; proactive planning and strategic agility are imperative. Companies must
have robust contingency and risk plans to weather future challenges without compromising their
core operations. The most recent disruption for many companies is the base interest rate. Many
companies carry debt, and many of the notes they have for operation costs now cost much more
than they expected due to the increase in interest rates. The higher interest rates undoubtedly put
pressure on businesses because consumers will decrease their spending (Seabury, C. 2023)
Competitiveness, Strategy, Tactics, and Productivity for Lumen
Starting with remote working, it is noteworthy how the global workforce transitioned from
traditional in-office settings to remote work-from-home models. Advanced technologies such as
Cloud computing, mobile tools, and video conferencing have made work from home feasible
(Staff, O. L. n.d). These technologies have enabled us to perform tasks from the comfort of our
homes, significantly reducing the need for travel. This is not just a cultural shift but also an
economic and environmental one. For Lumen, the work-from-home model has created a
challenge and opportunity as a business. As a provider of Enterprise network connectivity, much
of the internet service is for office buildings. With many of Lumen's customers working from
home and not returning to the office, bandwidth at the office is no longer necessary. Lumen has
helped companies build an internet-first strategy, adding security for companies who have shifted
to a hybrid or work-from-home model. The service, known as SASE, enables enterprises to
support hybrid working without compromising security and in voice and UC&C solutions that
are effective and cost-efficient ( Lumen 2022). Lumen also provides internet to the home.
However, their DSL technology does not provide the speeds most people desire. Lumen has
continued to expand its fiber to the home footprint and grow its customer base.
The article thoroughly explores the multifaceted changes shaping the manufacturing sector in the
wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Embracing adaptability, sustainability, and data-driven
strategies will be paramount as we advance. The challenges are substantial, but so are the
opportunities for businesses to innovate, evolve, and thrive.
