2 OneSearch Database Assignment OneSearch Database Assignment: Life Cycle of a Plastic Bottle The article titled, Comparison between the perceived and actual environmental sustainability of beverage packaging in glass, plastic, and aluminum, researched the overall topic of perceived environmental sustainability versus actual environmental sustainability when using different beverage packaging. The methodology that was used to analyze the data collected from the survey was Life Cycle Assessment with the approach of cradle to grave to fully measure impact from the start point through the endpoint. According to the article, the response from the survey resulted in an extremely high sustainability level (86%) for glass bottles and not at all sustainability level for plastic bottles (73%). The actual environmental sustainability shows that compared between glass bottle, aluminum can, and plastic bottle, glass bottle is the worst packaging alternative for one-time use. The energy consumption required to recycle glass bottles is significantly higher than that of plastic bottles. A glass bottle will only carry less impact than a plastic bottle when a glass bottle is reused at least eight times.
