Unit Assessment Guide Unit details Unit code BSBLIB304 Unit name Develop and use information literacy skills Unit purpose This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to define, locate, select, evaluate and present information in response to identified needs. It applies to individuals employed in any capacity, as well as members of the wider community, as information literacy skills have broad application in all industries, as well as to life skills in general. At this level, work is usually undertaken under supervision, though some autonomy and judgement can be expected within established parameters. Unit Assessment Guide Assessment conditions Submission dates Submission of assessment events are flexible to your own personal needs. You should discuss a timeline with your facilitator in order to determine suitable dates to submit each assessment event for marking. Submission instructions Your assessment events must be submitted online via the TAFEnow website. Complete each of your assessment events and save your files with the event name and your own name – for example:Event1_john_smith. Upload your assessment event files and any other additional attachments to the space provided in the TAFEnow online learning platform. Student is required to provide the following materials and equipment To complete this assessment, you will need to provide: A personal computer with internet access TAFE is required to provide materials and equipment To complete this assessment, your facilitator will provide access to: Nil Additional resources Nil Facilitator support and supervision There is no facilitator supervision required for these assessment events. If you are unclear about any aspect of the assessment please contact your facilitator for guidance. Student collaboration Student collaboration is not permitted. Tutorial assistance is available for all students at Studiosity which is accessible through the online learning platform. Plagiarism and referencing Plagiarism is taking the ideas or writings of others and presenting them as if they were original to the user. Unit Assessment Guide Assessment events Assessment event 1: Portfolio - Prepare information This assessment event requires you to submit a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your ability to source information to meet specific needs. This event is based on the following ABPL scenario . Your portfolio must include the following items: 1. Reference interview questions 2. Search Strategy Form 3. Bibliographic Record Sheet 4. Bibliography These sections must address the marking criteria in the table below. Note: All responses must be based on the ABPL scenario as provided. You must meet the marking criteria below in order to successfully complete this assessment event. 1. Reference interview questions Use the ABPL scenario document to record your responses that include: 1. List the six pieces of evidence relating to your understanding of the customer's information needs. 2. Prepare a minimum of six questions you could ask the customer during a reference interview to find out further information. 2. Search Strategy Form Using the ABPL Search Strategy Form , conduct a search for resources for the customer. Your search strategy must include: 1. Detailed information about the customer's request and the search strategy employed consisting of: o The customer's details o The question o The topic o The subject including: keywords synonyms truncation phrasing limits applied search statement search terms subject headings 2. Finalisation of the search strategy including the: o Referrals if applicable o Preferred method and date to advise the customer. 3. Bibliographic Record Sheet Record your search results in the ABPL Bibliographic Record Sheet that: 1. The article must be full text, not a citation. Include details of the library's website through which you accessed the database and name of the database where the resource was obtained. o At least one resource must be an alternate multimedia resource. o One electronic resources must be easily downloaded to a mobile device or viewed using wi-fi internet access. 2. For each resource listed identify: o Author / Journal / Organisation o Title o Publication details o Date retrieved o ISBN/ISSN format o Access Notes/Call number/URL o Any notes on how the resource is suitable and useful to the customer’s needs. Unit Assessment Guide Assessment event 2: Portfolio - Present information This event requires you to submit a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your ability to present information to meet the needs of a customer. This event builds on the information completed in event 1. You must submit the following: 1. Email to customer 2. Response from customer These items must address the criteria in the table below. Note: You are expected to send this email to "Jenny McTavish". Send to: jenny.mctavish16@gmail.com . "Jenny" will provide a response. You must upload both your email and response as evidence for this event You must meet the marking criteria below in order to successfully complete this assessment event. 1. Email to customer Construct an email suitable for sending to the customer. Your email must: 1. Adhere to the ABPL style guidelines for external emails to customers. 2. Include reference to an attachment of the completed Information request completion advice. 3. Identify the deadline for providing the information to the customer. 4. Advise the customer on the requested information and explain the procedures for how to access it, including use of relevant current technology and any legal or ethical considerations or protocols. 5. Include a minimum of three questions posed to the customer to receive feedback on: o the suitability of the information you have supplied o the service you have provided o whether there are any opportunities to improve. 2. Response from customer Submit a PDF or word copy of the response to your email received from Jenny McTavish. This document must: 1. Contain a screenshot or other evidence of receiving the email. 2.
