Week 1 Discussion Law Enforcement and Security Partnership How has the role of private security increased following the 9/11 tragedy and related homeland security concerns? How can private security further assist law enforcement, the courts, and corrections in crime prevention and community safety?
Due to the attacks on 9/11, the U.S. has increased its measures in safeguarding the country against acts of terrorism. Since the collaborate attacks, the uses of private security have increased tremendously with Considering the attack many new security companies and sectors have formed with new techniques, also since the private sector owns most of the infrastructure that they defend they work with local law enforcement on threats, and through a partnership they share critical information to protect our country's infrastructure. Government agents like The Department of Homeland Security have created and guided collaboration with private sector security. The public sector prepares memorandums, guidelines, and contracts or collaborates with the private sector to secure and defend from threats because the private sector has advanced technologies and intelligence while keeping the cost down for the public sector to manage. Private security can assist law enforcement, the courts, and corrections in crime prevention and community safety through sharing information, extra workforce, and faster communication. Private security works in a smaller footprint unlike local law enforcement so they can contain an area and then relay the information to the proper agencies. Private security agents can provide extra labor when needed whereas the public sector may not have the budget to hire the workforce. Lastly, having the private sector trained or certified to the public sector guidelines would be able to offer the protection measures needed in public defense and the knowledge of terminology to communicate faster with the public sector and citizens.
