The challenges Texas faces with its water situation, such as a drought and aging infrastructure have significant consequences for the residents, economy and environment. Analyzing this issue within the scope of policy and environmental politics is crucial as it falls under their domain in relation to Texas politics. Reason for Selection The issue at hand is of significance as it directly affects the lives of Texas residents. The fact that billions of gallons of water are lost each year due to leaks and broken pipes coupled with the occurrence of boil water notices raises serious concerns about public health and safety. Additionally, rural communities face greater challenges in dealing with this problem due to their limited resources and declining population. Given the failures in addressing this issue, there is an urgent necessity for immediate action to repair and modernize our water infrastructure. Importance of Sharing and Discussing with Classmates By discussing the water infrastructure crisis with my peers, we can deepen our knowledge of Texas politics and the challenges faced in policy. Through this exchange, we gain insights into the complexities of allocating resources the role of politics and how different communities are
3 affected. By examining failures, we can identify barriers to effective policymaking. Engaging in these conversations promotes awareness and encourages collaborative problem solving, empowering us to propose well informed solutions for a sustainable water future in Texas. Relevance to Course Topics The water infrastructure crisis is highly relevant to the topics covered in our course in terms of policy and environmental politics. It brings attention to the challenges involved in making policies allocating resources and deciding on funding options to meet needs. Additionally, discussing politics is crucial for comprehending the effects of climate change on water systems and promoting sustainable practices. By studying this issue, we can gain insights into how politics, policy making and environmental issues intersect in Texas. State Government's Efforts To respond to this issue, the Texas Legislature took into account Senate Bill 28 as a response to the water infrastructure crisis. This bill aimed to allocate resources towards resolving water infrastructure problems and introducing water supplies (Texas Legislature Online, n.d.). However, there were concerns raised about whether the bill supported underserved communities like colonias, which lack essential services. The precise distribution of funds remained uncertain, which could potentially result in certain areas being overlooked. Proposed Solution To effectively tackle this problem, it is crucial to take an approach. The state government should take into account the following measures;

This includes promoting water conservation practices and adopting approaches to ensure a resilient future. iii. Improve data collection and reporting mechanisms ensuring assessments of water loss. By prioritizing areas that require attention we can address issues promptly with transparency. iv. Encourage members from all communities to participate in decision making processes. This will enable us to make informed decisions that consider the diverse perspectives, within our society.
