A1. Secondary Packaging: Sending multiple units to numerous stores all over the world is necessary.
In a single wholesale unit, a product is contained in secondary packaging. Instead of considering
customers, the secondary process was designed with retailers in mind. Since mandolins require a lot of
attention before shipping, this packaging will offer excellent protection.
Tertiary packaging is excellent for efficiently carrying goods in large quantities, which simplifies the
shipping process to Europe. In order to maintain their security and facilitate shipping, the mandolins
will be wrapped in plastic and placed on wooden pallets.
A2. Due to the close closeness of the objects, a warehouse fire poses a considerable risk and even a
little one could cause significant damage. A fire in a warehouse could be minimized with the use of a
fire prevention system. Furthermore, by spacing the goods out so tightly together, the losses in the
event of a fire would be minimized.
Products could potentially be harmed by employees who store them. This might be minimized by
instructing staff members on how to store and move objects inside the warehouse, ensuring that
everything is handled with care.
A3. Although it is more expensive than other transportation choices, flying is the quickest and most
efficient way to deliver the goods. This company may not have an option but to choose this route
because they need to be able to ship as soon as possible given the difficulties they have experienced.
Despite the fact that they may not be as swift as plane cargo, trucks can travel far farther because they
don't need a runway or landing strip. Because the business is situated in the US, truck transportation
can be less expensive for shipments to US retail stores. Using trucks instead of airplanes has the
drawback of causing traffic bottlenecks and increasing the risk of a car accident because more people
drive than fly.
Truck and airplane delivery are the quickest options. The company will be able to recover some of the
lost time as a result of the inadequate supply materials by doing this. As previously mentioned,
shipping by truck and airplane are not the most affordable solutions. Given that transportation will be
sped faster to offset the delays, the cost will be justified.
A4. Utilizing a transportation management system offers many advantages, including the ability to
trace products, which enables businesses to determine whether anything went wrong and, perhaps,
disrupted the supply chain. With tracking, companies may foresee problems before they happen and
take proactive rather than reactive action.
When goods are damaged during shipping, reverse logistics can be quite helpful. This will enable the
business to trace harmed or flawed goods and recycle usable materials for future endeavors.
B1. The merchants' (consumers') reaction to the company's inability to complete orders promptly can
act as a barrier. Retailers have already voiced their frustration and skepticism about the company's
capacity to improve matters before the holiday shopping season. A bottleneck could occur when
switching from high- to low-quality materials. The supply chain's process area is being impacted by
the low-quality material since so many mandolins break during manufacture. As a result, there is
additional work and a delivery backlog.
B2. Despite having a 20-year partnership with the same supplier, the latter is unable to inform the
former when a product of higher quality might become available. It's time to find a new supplier
because of the issues and delays it has brought about. This is an example of "unfreezing". The
company has broken ties with its former suppliers, therefore the operations manager must begin
evaluating new suppliers to identify who can accurately and efficiently supply them with high quality
resources so they can produce high quality products. The new normal will emerge once the supplier is
selected, the business resumes producing mandolins effectively, and it meets the dates established by
the merchants.
B3. Mandolins are constructed from low-quality materials, therefore it is essential that the
manufacturer is honest with the store about the issues they are encountering. The company does not
want to supply stores with dangerous goods as a result of this delay. Because they don't want to give
the retailer a hazardous product due to subpar material quality, the producer should inform the store
that shipments will be delayed.
