1 Benchmark a CPU Objectives Learn how to compare CPU performance with other processors and to ensure that the processor, heat sink and fan are installed and working correctly. What you need prior to starting the lab Internet connection BurnInTest utility which can be downloaded from https://www.passmark.com/ Windows operating system only Purpose of the lab After completing a system build or when you installed a new processor, it is a good practice to test the CPU performance. This is usually done by running a stress test. If the system has some problems, it will show up when you increase the load in the system. It is recommended to back up the data before you perform any stress test. Activity There is a possibility that the images do not match or you may not find the same version on the website. 1. Go to a web browser and downloaded BurnInTest from For Windows https://www.passmark.com/ For MAC https://novabench.com/ Or https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/25230/istat-menus

Using the Temperature tab, record the average temperatures during the burn-in test: Minimum: _________________ Current: __________________ Maximum: ________________ 8. Using the System Information tab, record the CPU type
3 ________________________________________ 9. Using the System Information tab, under the CPU, click Online CPU comparison to open cpubenchmark.net 10.If your CPU is listed on the cpubenchmark.net website, then click on the CPU name and answer the following questions: What is the overall rank of your CPU? __________________________________ What is the CPU mark relative to top 10 common desktop CPUs _____________ If you CPU is not listed on the cpubenchmark.net website, then ignore the above questions. 11.Why do you place a system under a load when you are testing for errors? 12.What is the purpose of a benchmarking a CPU? 13.Why is it important to back up data on a computer before you burn-in test the CPU?
