Name of the article : "Using value stream mapping to eliminate waste: A case study of a steel pipe manufacturer". Link of the article : https://www.researchgate.net/publication/352386950_Using_Value_Stream_Ma pping_to_Eliminate_Waste_A_Case_Study_of_a_Steel_Pipe_Manufacturer Brief description : Value stream mapping is an easy tool for the visualization of the process involved in the production department of the organization. Depending upon the visualization of the processes the decision of eliminating any additional step can be taken by the organization. The tool is versatile to be used in variety of business sector (Salwin et. al., 2021). The development of VSM involves the theoretical and practical aspect related to the production unit of the organization. The paper presents the VSM of steel pipe production. The initial process is mapped followed by identification of waste based in which future process mapping is done ( Huang et. al., 2019 ). Process map is more comprehensive and this tool is used by companies to generate suitable business model. The process map example includes the payment receipt process which in the raw mapping shows start, received payment, registering in the system, informing the payer and end. Further process mapping aims at improving the mapping of payment receipt process ( Marriott, 2018 ). VSM presents the broader view of the process involved in the business whereas process mapping gives an in-depth information or visualization of the business process. VSM is suitable to picture and evaluate major functions and the process maps can be effectively used to picture and evaluate specific task involved in a function of the business. In respect to difficulty faced in implementation, VSM is found to be more difficult than process maps. If VSM is not implemented properly then it can result in negative interpretation which can have long term adverse impact on the business of the organization ( Stadnicka & Litwin, 2019 ). VSM is suitable for improving the production environment and on the other hand process mapping is used for improvement in decision making.
