BUAN – 244 – Tableau Homework – Assignment 3
Part I:
R
Download the concrete.csv data set.
This data set contains information about a wide range of cars. You will create a correlation
matrix and then answer some questions about how the attributes relate to one another, if at all.
The interpretation of the attributes is as follows:
MPG: The car's tested fuel economy in miles per gallon of fuel.
Cylinders: The number of cylinders each vehicle's engine has. More cylinders usually
equates to more power produced by an engine.
Engine_Size: A measurement of how big the cylinders are. For this data set, Engine_Size
is measured in cubic inches.
Horse_Power: A measurement of how much power the engine is capable of producing.
Vweight: How much the vehicle weighs in pounds.
Acceleration: The number of seconds the vehicle takes to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour.
Step 1. Import the concrete data sets for this exercise into data frames in RStudio.
Step 2. Load the R library required to create correlation coefficient matrix and
linear regression
model.
Step 3: Using the appropriate RStudio function, create a correlation coefficient matrix in a data
object called CarCorrelations, and examine the results from Q1 to Q2.
Step 3. Create a linear regression model to predict MPG.
Step 4. Use the summary() function to inspect your independent variables’ coefficients and
answer Q3.
Answer the following two questions:
Q1: What is the relationship between Horse_Power and MPG?
A.
As Horse_Power increases, MPG decreases.
B.
As MPG decreases, Horse_Power decreases.
C.
As MPG increases, Horse_Power increases.
D.
There is no meaningful relationship between Horse_Power and MPG.
Q2: Which two attributes are the most weakly correlated?
A.
Acceleration and Vweight
B.
Acceleration and MPG
C.
Engine_Size and Cylinders
D.
Engine_Size and MPG
Q3:
Assume a car with the following attributes: Cylinders=8,
Engine_Size=300,
Horse_Power=130,
Vweight=3570,
Acceleration=15. Using the coefficients in the model,
what do you predict the car's tested MPG to be?
Answer in R file
Part II: Tableau
The following questions use the dataset order.csv. You need to create separate worksheet for
each question to explain how you got the answer.

a. 31863
b. 51255
c. 37930
d. 37181
2. Drag both Product Category and Product Sub-category in the Rows. Look at the sum of profits
for each Product Category. Which category has positive profits across all sub-categories?
A. Furniture
B. Office Supplies
C. Technology
3. Find the Product Names by Sales within each region. Which product is ranked #2 in the
Central and the West in 2011?
a. Riverside Palais Royal Lawyers Bookcase
b. Bush Mission Pointe Library
c. Sharp AL-1530CS Digital Copier
d. Global Troy Executive Leather Low Back Tilter
4. How many unique customer(s) (Use Customer ID with count function) belong in the 11554
postal codes?
a. 1
b. 2
c. 8
d. 9
5. How many orders (Use Customer ID and apply count function) belong in the 11554 postal
codes?
a. 1
b. 2
c. 8
d. 9
6. In the Technology Product Category, which unprofitable state is surrounded by only profitable
states?
a. Colorado
b. Missouri
c. Wyoming
