HIS 100 Module Two Activity Template: Historical Research Question
This activity is your last chance to choose a topic. Topic changes may be based on your research
or instructor feedback. Then write a historical research question that addresses an aspect of
your finalized topic. Replace the bracketed text below with your responses.
Non-graded portion
:
List your historical research topic here:
o
Chernobyl
Graded portion:
Write a clear, relevant, and focused research question about your finalized topic.
o
How did the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl affect the wildlife, the ecosystem, and the
long-term health of the human population around the area?
Explain how another person’s beliefs, assumptions, and values may lead that person to create a
different question than you.
o
A person’s beliefs, assumptions and values could easily lead someone else to create a
different research question regarding Chernobyl than the one I have posed. When
looking at the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, there are many facets and components to
consider. You could look at the political aspect and research what factors influenced the
decisions around the fallout from the disaster and how they handled it from a public
perspective. You could look at the science of how procedures were handled at Chernobyl
and whether there was neglect on the hand of the nuclear power they were harnessing.
But for someone like me, the human experience is always something I am drawn too. In
addition to that, I have always had a soft spot for animals, wildlife, and the many
different forms of nature. This empathy that I have towards these things always draws
me to look at the experience and ask the questions surrounding what happened to them
and how they were affected.
