The Americans knew that having labor workers was crucial to being a successful colony. Due to the fact that they needed constantly working people to produce enough crops to make a profit. The Americans tried to solve this problem of the lack of workers but fell short when they concluded that they did not have access to enough regularly working African laborers. After this the resorted to Native American laborers, their own indentured servants who they did not want to enslave because they were their own people, but they were willing to coerce their own people. Later down the line, the American realized that their indentured slave supply was dwindling, and they saw those African laborers where very productive when it came to making a profit. They pushed the African slave trade and wanted to establish a joint slave trade company, they wanted laws and rules that authorized to right to enslave Africans in America. This was not accidental, this was purposeful with the intent to maximize profit from crop, seeing how productive Africans were when working for the Americans. Question 2: What were the defining characteristics of the original English colonists' relations with the Indians?
The main defining characteristics of the original English colonists’ relations with the Indians, is trade. The English wanted to persuade their own government to refrain from any military expedition that would disrupt trade that was already going on with the Indians. This was a pivotal point in trading among the English traders and the Indian traders, that they wanted nothing to disrupt what they were doing amongst the trading. The shared spirituality between the English colonists and the Indians were also a defining characteristic between their relationship.
