Module 7 Short Responses
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 1 Name three historical lenses that you could apply to gain a fuller picture of the relationship between Natives and white settlers. Be sure to respond to this question in no more than one sentence, using proper grammar.
Three lenses I would choose to gain a better picture of the relationship between Natives and the White Settlers would be Political, Economic, and Social. Module 7 Short Responses – Question 2 Revise the thesis statement at the top of this page to reflect a more complex view of the relationship between Natives and white settlers. Your revised thesis statement should be
longer than one sentence.
Conflicts between Natives and white settlers in the early 19th century can be attributable to several different causes. While the white settlers tried to push their religious values onto the Natives in a feeble attempt at 'civilizing' them. The Natives were forced to fight for their land,
whist the Natives saw their land as a source of life the White settlers saw it as a commodity that could be bought and sold.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 3 Name three historical lenses that you could use to look at the events described in the video you just saw.
Three lenses that I would use to describe this would be Religious, Social and Political
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 4 Massasoit's decision to approach the Pilgrims about an alliance was contingent on what previous event or events? (Name one or two.)
I think one of the biggest events about an alliance with the Pilgrims would be their need for help due to the sickness and diseases that were killing off tribe members.

Module 7 Short Responses – Question 5 Name one short-term consequence and one long-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims.
A short-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims is peaceful existence between the two communities and one nice long-term consequence is the Thanksgiving holiday.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 6 How has your understanding of the historical event in your essay changed as a result of your research? Describe one instance of a misconception or a wrong idea you had about
your topic that has been corrected after researching and writing about it.
When I originally chose my topic, I didn't think there would be as much negativity toward the
Irish immigrants as there was. However, they were not only discriminated against for their religion but also for their education their skills in terms of employment, and their overall beings. For the immigrants to be denied employment and the denial to practice their religion created such an impact it caused much more of a divide. Module 7 Short Responses – Question 7 Name four historical lenses through which you could analyze the events of the Cherokee
Removal. Specify one aspect of this event for each lens that you cite.
1. Religious Lens - The American settlers made several attempts to 'Christianize', 'Westernize', and 'colonize' the tribes; this was the government's way to push their agenda and
to have everyone conform to their beliefs and practices. 2. Political Lens - It was the goal and pressing point for many of the presidential runners, to have the tribes land by forcing them to move west and to explain their 'vision' for the America of the future. 3. Social Lens - In order for the tribes to keep their 'Sovereignty' they would have to 'trade' their land for federal lands west of the Mississippi and make the move to their new homes. This was extremely tough and not many people lived through the trail of tears.

4. Economic Lens - The Natives who decided not to make the move would gain citizenship and would gain 640 acres of farmland to start their new livelihoods on. Module 7 Short Responses – Question 8 Agree or disagree with the following thesis statement: "The Treaty of New Echota was invalid, and the National Party was correct to oppose it." Cite at least three historical facts that support your position.
I agree that The Treaty of New Echota was invalid, and the National Party was correct to oppose it. The Cherokee movement didn't help with the leadership within the tribes. It also left the remaining member of the tribes with fewer people than first thought due to the large death toll that was incurred along the way. The assassinations of Mayor Ridge, John Ridge, and Elias Boudinot hindered the fight and caused more violence to ensue.
