A place where we have all seen discrimination in this world, we live in is in the media. Primarily the George Floyd incident in 2020. Some police officers stopped George Floyd, a 46-
year-old black American because a store clerk accused and suspected him of using a fake or counterfeit twenty-dollar bill. Floyd was going along with his day when he was forcefully removed and detained by Officer Derek Chauvin. Officer Chauvin was responsible for the death of George Floyd as the officer placed his knee on Floyd’s neck for 9 and a half minutes on the street right outside the convenience store. Floyd was begging and pleading with the officer during that time because he couldn’t breathe but his request and voice were not heard. It was then found that Floyd died of asphyxiation on May 25, 2020.
I believe that the factors on Loden’s Wheel may have created some conflict in the incident discussed by the internal stage which relates to race. Floyd was an African American man, and Derek Chauvin, a white man, felt the need to do what he did the Floyd for some reason.
I also believe that the external stage which must deal with his appearance could also be a factor in this horrific situation. George Floyd was a tall, bigger-built African American man, this could have made the police who arrived at the scene feel initiated or even insecure about themselves. There are people out there that believe this situation doesn’t have to deal with race but it is hard to ignore some of the facts that are presented that lead us to believe otherwise.
When this situation occurred it caused a major uproar in society which can relate to the era stage of the Loden Wheel. Floyd’s justice case causes new events to occur. After the death of Floyd, there were protests all around the world and on social media. Everyone was angry that it was a white officer that killed a black man. We all want justice, and this just wasn’t what we fought for. The world wanted George Floyd to have justice. A common discussion or topic among the protests worldwide was police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement.
