Was the teacher prepared? Yes or No The teacher was prepared, yes. 02. Based on your observation, if yes , how did adequate preparation contribute to the outcome of the teaching presentation? If not , how did inadequate preparation contribute to the outcome of the teaching presentation?
The adequate preparation allowed for a successful lesson. The lesson was organized and the teacher was able to properly educate the students on tennis serving. Teaching Presentation 03. What did the teacher do well during her teaching presentation? (List 3) The teacher did a great job of instructing. She was able to demonstrate the skill and explain what the proper technique for the skill is. She did a great job at engaging with students and even physically helped a student perform the proper technique. Lastly, she did a great job of managing the class. Although it was a bit rowdy, she was able to assert herself and make sure she got through with teaching the skill. 04. What changes should the teacher have made that would have resulted in a better teaching presentation? (List 3) Some changes the teacher could have made are adding another dimension or difficulty to the activity, such as having students serve on both sides of the court back and forth to one another. She could have prepared a way to better manage the class and quiet them down. Lastly, she could have projected her voice more, she was speaking softly, which could’ve contributed to the rowdiness of the students. 05. What problems/challenges did you observe that the teacher experienced during the teaching presentation? I noticed the teacher had a hard time managing the students. She did well at doing so, but there were moments where they would be louder than her, disengaged, and off task.
06. Based on your observation, was the lesson, including the activities, “student centered”? The lesson was “student centered”. The activity allowed students to engage with one another and created a positive atmosphere for the students to complete the activity. 07. Did the teacher keep the class engaged? Yes or No Explain: Yes, the teacher did keep the class engaged. She walked around explaining, demonstrating, and helping. She did her best to keep the attention on her and the activity. She instructed students to switch sides and that added engagement to the lesson. 08. Did the teacher engage the class in closure? The teacher did engage the class in closure. She had everyone gather around and asked them questions, spoke to individuals directly, and used positive reinforcement. 09. Did the teacher address off-task/ inappropriate behavior in an appropriate manner? Yes or No Explain: No, the teacher did not address off task behavior appropriately. Throughout the entire lesson, there were students off task. She only addressed the behavior once or twice when she had no choice but to get their attention.

10. Did the teacher organize the class appropriately for each phase of the lesson? The teacher didn’t organize the class appropriately. Students were spaced out everywhere and not in places where they could adequately perform the activity. 11. Did the teacher provide appropriate skill feedback? Yes or No Specifically, type one instance of feedback that was given. No, I did not see or hear the instructor give specific feedback about the students performance of the skill. She did however, give them positive reinforcement by telling them “You guys actually did pretty good.” 12. Based on your observation, what letter grade would the teacher have earned? Please provide rationale for the grade issued. The teacher should have earned an A. I believe an A is appropriate for the instructor because the skill was effectively taught to the students, the lesson was engaging, and the teacher was assertive. There were some elements missing, such as her class management, projection, and feedback. However, I think the instructor did a great job at teaching the skill effectively. 13. As the evaluator, what suggestions (feedback) would you give to the presenter that would enhance her next presentation? I would suggest to the presenter to project her voice more, it might help with keeping the students focused. I would also suggest for her to organize the students a bit better, she instructed them well, however she could have been more specific with what she wanted. Lastly, I would suggest to her to be a bit more authoritative, projecting your voice is sometimes necessary to grasp attention and give direction.
Application/Overall Assessment 14. Based on what you observed from watching the video, list one positive “take-away” that could be transferred to your proposed area of expertise/career/life? One positive take away from the video is the way she was able to be assertive yet kind in the way she did it. She instructed the students to do something then thanked them for following instructions. I believe that setting boundaries without being harsh is something I could use in life. It’s not hard to come off as rude when trying to set boundaries, the way she was able to do so and be kind and is something I could take from. ** For future KINE4307 Secondary Kinesiology course offerings, please list 2-3 suggestions for course improvement. Improvements that can be made are communication about the expected outcomes of the course. Another improvement that can be made is the manner in which instruction is taught. For a three hour class, students should possibly be allowed to take a mental break in between learning the information.
