HOW MUCH to FEED?
For each of the 10 following scenarios,
Find the Resting Energy Requirements (RER) on the Table on next slide.
Calculate the Daily Energy Requirements (DER) by multiplying by the factor on the right side of the next slide)
Choose the appropriate petfood (see the slide 2 ahead of this one)
And calculate how much volume (in cups/day) to feed

Get the Resting Energy Requirements (RER) from the weight of the animal (in lbs. or kg)
Calculate the Daily Energy Requirements (DER) by multiplying the RER by the appropriate factor in the info on the right side of attached (kcal/day)

IV. Calculate amount to feed daily
Choose the appropriate diet from Hill’s Science products (normal) or Hill’s Prescription diets
Divide the DER (kcal/day)by the caloric density (kcal/cup) of the diet to get amount to feed (cups/day).
HOW MUCH to FEED?
Example: A two year old spayed female dog weighs 30 kg and is prone to obesity.
Resting Energy Rate (RER) is 887 kcal/day
DER is 887 * 1.4
= 1,242 kcal/day
I choose Dog Adult Advanced Fitness with 370 kcal/cup
I will feed 1,242/370 = 3.4 cups a day
Here are the ten scenarios for everyone to do:

Kitten DSH, intact male, 0.9 kg

Dog Labrador, 5 year old, intact male 34 kg, doing light work (4 mile run with owner every day)

Cat, 4 year old neutered (or “N”) male, 4.5 kg, had feline urinary syndrome (urethra blocked by stones)
E.
Dachshund, 10 year old, female (spayed), 24 lbs., prone to obesity
F.
Cat, DLH, 5 year old neutered male, normal, 10 lbs.
G.
Beagle, 10 year old, neutered male, 25 lbs., has kidney disease
H.
Beagle X Boxer, neutered male, 8 years old, obese prone, 40 lbs. I.
Pointer, 55 lbs., intact male, 3 years old, trains for and hunts birds 3 hours per day (moderate work).
J.
Great Dane puppy, 2 months old, 40 lbs., intact male.
