INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this unit 1 individual assignment topic will be a focus on the various
individuals or professionals critical to the healthcare system process. For these healthcare
organizations it is imperative that those qualified individuals are properly recruited and vetted for
the purpose of filling those positions that are vital to the process of delivering quality care and
performance to the patient. In some instances there may be a situation where an employee must
be removed or replaced. This assignment will also help to identify or recognize at least four other
critical professions within the healthcare organization which are a part of the post-acute care
facility or acute care hospital and will examine and explain the credentialing requirements of the
profession along with the educational levels that are necessary for theses positions.

In many cases or situations when it comes to acute and post acute care hospitals/facilities,
the healthcare providers or caregivers of the patient must comprehend the care which is
necessary from the the time of birth until the time of death. Acute and post acute care
hospitals/facilities have numerous types of professionals and providers that may range from
various types of medical specialities or practices which are vital when dealing with the numerous
types of medical conditions no matter how basic or severe the issue is when regarding the health
of the patient. Acute hospitals/facilities serve a purpose for giving the patient immediate care
even if he treatment process or method is for a brief period of time. The treatment for the most
part may be for a chronic condition due to trauma or recovery from a surgical procedure. Acute
care is viewed as a short term of care provided by any hospital or facility with various providers
or care givers that have vast experience that is based on the ability to diagnose and treat the
numerous types of medical symptoms, conditions or injuries (Shabsigh, 2022).
The list for acute care providers does vary, however there are at least four primary providers
or caregivers that you will come in contact with the most. They are attending physician,
registered nurses, patient care technicians and those individuals who identify or are recognized as
interns, medical students or residents.During the patients stay at the acute hospital/facility, they
will be provided or receive the care necessary for the medical condition or ailment to be treated.
The attending physicians in many ways is viewed as being the medical leader within the setting
of the hospital/facility. They are tasked with the overall responsibility for the care of the patient
and those entrusted in caring for the patient as well. The physician is also responsible for the

supervising, training, and teaching of residents, interns and medical students. The physician for
the most part will assume full responsibility when it comes to the primary care or well being of
the patient especially in cases of ethical and legal responsibility when it comes to directing the
type of care and treatment for that particular patient. The physician will ensure that all
documentation of changes and instructions for that patient are properly documented within the
patients medical chart during their stay up until the time of discharge (Shabsigh, 2022).
Attending physicians must complete the necessary schooling prior to enrolling into a
medical college where they must first earn a bachelors and then a masters degree for the purpose
of pursuing a career in medicine. They must obtain a state license in their and state of
employment, state of residence and be eligible for a specialty board certification. In some cases
there are states that require a minimal number amount of hours per year necessary to continue or
maintain having a state license to practice medicine. To obtain those necessary credentials and
receive those privileges in the respective medical field of their choosing, it is vital that the
physician must first obtain a formal letter or certificate that gives them the right or legal
authorization to provide medical care and treatment to patients by way of the medical director of
the medical school attended by the physician.
For the students who are studying, learning and being trained by the medical professionals or
providers, it is imperative that these individuals watch very closely, take notes and listen very
carefully to the instructions being conveyed to them. Those interns, residents and medical
students must follow the medical professionals or providers around for hours during the day

during the training process so as tro ensure they are learning and absorbing the required
knowledge necessary for the caterer of the patient while also understanding the need
professionalism within the field of medicine. In many cases, these types of providers are very
different and have numerous responsibilities.
When it comes to patient care technicians, These individuals are providers who are trained
for the purpose of caring for patients who are in need of or require a specific type of care or
need. These technicians are tasked with providing the nurse with assistance when it comes to
taking the vital signs, taking blood, helping with testing, feeding, exercise and any other activity
to help ensure the care of the patient. The educational training and requirements play a vital role
for the care of any patient by the patient care technician. The technician in many ways will bean
observer who will take the time necessary to catalog and communicate those concerns and needs
of the patient to the medical staff or primary care givers (Little, 2022).
The registered nurse for the most part in the healthcare system has a primary focus which
deals with the assessment, monitoring, treatment and educating of the patient and those family
members when it comes or deals with the care of the patient. The nurse works closely with the
attending physician when delivering the proper care or treatment necessary for the care of the
patient whether it is short-term or long term. The nurse will always keep in mind that is is critical
to ensure the patient is as comfortable as possible. Registered nurses are required to obtain the
necessary educational and medical training the same as any other medical or professional
caregiver.

The registered nurse is required to obtain a both an associates and bachelors in nursing. They
must the obtain a medical certificate or diploma from an approved nursing program or school.
They must also be properly licensed. These credentials of course must be properly validated and
vetted prior to employment with any healthcare hospital or facility.
For any healthcare organization or facility, it is imperative to properly screen and vet all new
hires by using background checks such as criminal and drug screening. In some cases a verifiable
work history may be needed to help properly gauge the experience of the new employee to
ensure the patient will receive high performance in quality care. The organization must be able to
comprehend if they are able to trust those individuals for whom they are about to hire. If the
healthcare organization does not properly vet that or those particular individuals, them more than
likely the organization itself may be setting themselves up for failure when it comes to the care
and safety of the patient.
Progressive discipline is a process or method of utilizing severe methods or procedures in
situations of an employee failing to correct a ceratin problem after being given ample time or
opportunity to correct the situation. This particular method is a procedure which can help an
employee to comprehend the manner in which they are performing the required task or job
incorrectly. However, it is also to let them know that the task is not being performed correctly
and there is the possibility for termination of employment.
