My scores for the short form are as follows:
Scale 1: 21/25
Scale 2: 24/25
Scale 3: 20/25
Scale 4: 19/25
Scale 5: 24/25
Total Score: 108/125
I was not very surprised when it came to my assessment scores. I scored high in areas where I was asked
if I could choose a career path (I already have), if I would be okay switching career paths if one wasn’t
working (I am doing that right now), and how confident I would be reaching out to people to ask about
majors and job opportunities in certain fields (I did that before I applied to this program). The places I
didn’t do so well were in determining a 5-year plan, which is hard for me because my life seems to
change drastically every time, I think I have it figured out, and whether or not I was confident writing a
great resume. Even though I am older and have written many, MANY resumes in my lifetime, keeping up
with the changing trends is hard. I am always afraid my resume is ‘so last season’ or that I will come off
as inept for structuring one a certain way.
I think seniors in high school or freshmen in college would be the most likely population to use this
assessment on. It asks questions involving career choice, researching majors, and how confident you are
with resume writing and contacting faculty that may be in various field of study. Some other populations
this assessment might be useful in helping could be people going back to finishing their education (GED,
undergraduate degree) later in life after another path didn’t work out, or even immigrants who are
interested in having an education and career here in the United States. Just like when the industrial
revolution caused gave workers vocational choices to pick from, people choosing occupations today can
still benefit from our help (Dugger, 2015). Using these types of assessments is definitely one avenue of
doing just that.
