Ethics of Covid-19
Why do you think the Covid-19 pandemic is deadly to some races and ethnic groups?
There are many factors that contribute to the risk of dangerous infectious disease. One of
these factors is race and ethnicity. The Covid-19 is just one example of a disease where ethnicity
and race is a risk factor of infection. The main reason why the pandemic was deadly to some
races especially the rare minorities is anchored on the fact that the genetic make-up of people in
certain races allows spread of infection. The total cumulative data show that Black, Hispanic and
the Native Americans were the most affected because their genetic makeup allowed for a
constant surge of infection. The explanation above accurately analyzes the reason why the
pandemic could be deadly to particular races than others. Below is a discussion of how race then
contributes to greater risk of contraction and death.
How can one’s race or ethnicity put them at greater risk of contracting and dying from the
disease?
Race contributes to greater risk of death and contraction because of the following
reasons. First, an individual from the minority races including Blacks and Hispanics experience
structural and systemic racism that ensures these people do not have access to quality healthcare
(Burgos et al., 2021). Limited access to quality healthcare contributes to contraction of disease
and death. Additionally, the presence of a secondary condition is a major contributor to death.
Most people within the Black race live with underlying conditions including heart disease,
obesity, and diabetes (Burgos et al., 2021)
. Suffering Covid-19 with these infections largely

contributes to risk of death. In conclusion, certain races are affected more by public health
emergencies like Covid-19. The case of Covid-19 just exposes the need to promote health and
well-being of members of racial and various ethnic groups.
