Part 1 This notebook entry is about an investigation based on whether an ice cube would melt faster in freshwater or salt water. Part 2 I selected this notebook entry because I remember this entry surprised me the most by its outcome. I had always thought that an ice cube would melt faster in salt water because I based it on how when it snows, we put salt on snow instead of water so that the snow can melt. In this investigation, the ice cube melted faster in freshwater than in salt water. This notebook entry shows evidence of my learning this semester because it showed me what important components should go into recording the observations you make during investigations. It also made me realize how effective and important it is to let students run the investigations because they can have something to connect back to when they learn about the reasons the phenomenon occurs.
Part 1 This notebook entry is about what observations we had when we watched a video of a reporter involved in a sledding accident. After watching the video, we created claims using evidence and reasoning on why we think the reporter flipped when he was hit by the sledder. Part 2 I selected this notebook entry because I remember being intrigued as to why the reporter did a flip when it got run into by a sledder. Watching the video built my curiosity, and looking back at this reminds me of how important it is to show or tell students the phenomenon without too much information because it builds curiosity. This notebook entry shows evidence of my learning this semester because it taught me what an effective science explanation looks like and how to teach students to construct excellent science explanations. Scientists construct explanations for why things happen in the world we live in. We are always trying to construct explanations for what we do or what we think, which is why it’s important to teach students how to construct explanations. Additionally, explanations are an important practice because you can assess students' understanding of the science concept.
Part 1 This notebook entry is about what differentiation strategies we observed in a video about a teacher teaching her students a science lesson and in her class, she had a couple of English language learners. Part 2 I selected this notebook entry because differentiation strategies in the classroom are important to incorporate into any lesson. As teachers, we want students to learn and succeed, and one of the ways to do that is by making sure we accommodate students' needs. This entry shows evidence of my learning this semester because as I was watching the video, I wrote down these techniques so I could remember them. I plan on implementing these differentiation strategies as I transition to becoming a student teacher because I know I will have English language learners and I want them to be able to engage and connect with the lessons I teach.
