You have just completed a series of 12 weather observations (12 daily reports)
for the City of Florence, AL, or the city of your choice. Let us demonstrate our understanding and
appreciation of local weather for the past 12 days by responding to the following questions.
1.
Pull out and study carefully all your daily weather reports. In

Using the temperature data, draw a temperature line graph (in

the temperature changes in Florence in the 12-day period from August to October (as
explained in lab). From your temperature line graph, identify (with a circle) a day(s) and
specific date(s) when Florence experienced a sharp drop
in temperature.

From your temperature line graph in question 2 above, describe the general
temperature trend over Florence in the 8-week period. Based on knowledge obtained
from this class, what would you say explains this general temperature trend for the
month(s) you observed?
Although in the state of Al, it is not as likely for temperatures to get as cooler as in other
states in fall months, the temperature did get a little bit cooler. There were many days
when the temperatures reached a nice 70
. The change in temperatures as the seasons

go on is due to the angle of the sun's rays and the number of daylight hours at that
location. Both the angle of the sun's rays and the number of daylight hours in a location
change throughout the year as Earth orbits or revolves around the sun.

From your daily report (national image), identify a day when there was a very well
developed mid-latitude cyclone over the United States. Over what State(s) is the low
pressure center that day? Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois
Over what State(s) is the nearest high-pressure center on that day? New Mexico,
Arizona, Kansas

Alternatively, you can work on the blank map of the US provided at the last page of this
test, identify the low-pressure center by drawing a small circle with the letter “L” in the
middle. Use increasingly larger circles to represent isobars in the cyclone from the center
to the outside. Use the proper weather symbols to draw the cold and warm front. Use
large arrows to represent wind movement (circulation). Label the warm and the
cool/cold sector. Use the codes “cP” and “mT” to label the continental polar and
maritime tropical air masses (winds) for the weather system. Once you are done, take a
photo and insert here as your answers. I would recommend insert an existing map rather
than manually draw your own, but it is up to you.

with the letter “H” on the national image are associated with calm, less dramatic
weather. Identify a day and date where Florence (or the city you picked) weather can be
attributed to a prevailing mid-latitude anticyclone. Insert the image from your daily
report below and answer following questions: What was the temperature in Florence
that day? What was the barometric reading in Florence that day? What was the wind
speed and direction that day? On what State was the nearest low pressure center
labeled “L”?

major weather event (turbulent/dramatic weather). Insert this national image below and
use information from the national image for that day, and knowledge obtained from this
