People have shunned and chuckled at the idea that global warming is just a abnormal phenomenon. That our planet earth is supposed to be engulfed in forest fires and droughts. Out earthly customs have created a barrier for people to know whats real and what is fake. It is very apparent in todays world that global warming in not something that us humans should be skeptible about. As we live on this earth. We are intrusted to take care of it. Unfortunately, its safe to say people have forsaken that trust and have turned what was once our safehaven of a home into an unsavory landscape. The people of this earth have to act soon or else there won’t be much of an earth to take care of. Body: I. What is Global Warming and Climate Change? A. According to NASA a t https://climate.nasa.gov/global-warming-vs-climate-change/ last updated on August 29,2022, Global warming is the long-term heating of the Earth’s surface that has been observed since the pre-industrial period. B. According to NASA a t https://climate.nasa.gov/global-warming-vs-climate-change/ last updated on August 29,2022,, Global warming and climate change are not interchangalble. Each have there separate meaning. Climate change is a long-term change between the average weather patterns that define Earth’s local, regional, and global climates. For example, the pacific Northwest is defined by the rainfall we acquire year-round.
C. According to NASA a t https://climate.nasa.gov/global-warming-vs-climate-change/ last updated on August 29,2022, Global Warming has been observed since about 1850. Since then human activities are estimated to increase Earth's temperature by about 1 degree Celsius ( 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit) and an estimated 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade. D. According to NASA a t https://climate.nasa.gov/global-warming-vs-climate-change/ last updated on August 29,2022,Climate Change has been observed since the mid-20th century, scientist observe from ground, air and space to render the most accurate climate per location. The key indicators noted fro climate change are: increasing sea levels, ice loss and Earths poles and glaciers, frequent and severe natural disasters, cloud and vegetation cover changes. II. Cause and Effect A. Generating power: According to the United Nations at the link , last visited September 1st,2022, a cause of climate change is by generating abundance amounts of power. The generation of electricity and burning of fossil fuels has been the leading causes in climate change and global warming. Most electricity is fueled by coal, oil, or gas, which when burnt release large amounts of carbon emissions. B. Clearcutting of Forests: According to the United Nations at the link , last visited September 1st,2022, the clearcutting of forests, also known as deforestation, has been rampant as people make space for the creation of homes and farms. Not to mentions trees are an material that is transformed into many everyday amenities, like paper, and as well used to create homes. C. Transportation:According to the United Nations at the link , last visited September 1st,2022, Most cars, trucks, ships, and planes run on fossil fuels. Means of transportation requires the consumption of petroleum fuel which is a fossil fuel, That makes transportation a
major contributor of greenhouse gases, especially carbon-dioxide emissions. Due to the combustion of petroleum-based products, like gasoline, in internal combustion engines. Transport accounts for nearly one quarter of global energy-related carbon-dioxide emissions III. Why is it still controversial? Why is it important? A: media platforms: In the documentary Merchants of Doubt, Naomi Oreskes asked the question why is Climate Change still a debate amongst the populace. She did the research and saw that the debate wasnt amongst scentist. After reading published researched from various scientist she came to the conclusion that no scientist denied the existence of climate change. It was the media portraying it that there was no true cause or that it even existed. She read 928 articles regarding climate change. Zero denied the existence of climate change. B: Skeptics play politics: In the documentary Merchants of Doubt published in 2015, they speak about how people would deny the fact of climate change. Politics played a major part of this debate. Politicians would add people to their administration to raise doubt about the excitance of climate change. Marc Murano was one of these people. He would target scientist who attested to the existence of climate change and would harass them infront the public eye. His goal was to ruin there reputation so there credibility would falter. Murano’s stated that he never watched the research but rather just did it for “fun”. People who advocated for the reality of climate change would be publicly humiliated and labeled. C: Playing against the government: In the documentary Merchants of Doubt published in 2015, people who have anti-government views are whom these anti-climate change advocaters target. The IPCC, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, is a group of notable scientists from across the world gathered to study the effects of climate change. To counter act this government research team, a group of was

formed called the NIPCC, Non-governmental International panel on Climate Change. This group was created to deny any and all proofs of climate change. They created identical handbooks to that of the IPCC to create a matter of confusion between the differences of the NIPCC and IPCC. The founder of the NIPCC is a Physicist named Fred Singer. D.Importance of advocacy and awareness: Accoding the NOAA, not only is our planet at risk but also the lives that live on it. We have seen the signs. Constant hurricanes in the Southeast region of the U.S. Unprecedented amounts of wildfires and droughts across the West. Rising sea levels across the world. Glaciers and our Earth Poles snow caps starting to melt. The danger is there but many have tuned out that issue. The world is being destroyed by none others than those tasked to protect it. CONCLUSION: Climate change will have a higher impact on the humans than we think. People talking about New York being flooded in the near future wasn’t a movie scene. It’s the cold hard truth. We have been cutting down the vary trees we need to breath and create oxygen for us. We are using over abundant amounts of fossil fuels solely to create inventions that are meant for money and self gain. It is time we stop thinking of our own personal interest and look at the interest of the earth. Our planets temperature continues to rise. We are destroying our own home, and we only have ourselves to blame. References: Oreskes, Naomi.
