The notes on parsing involve use of the parsing technique to analyze written structures. This is not an easy task and ample time should be given to review the notes. We will then explore the social construction of Horror in our Discussion Forum and the Learning Journal will reflect upon why people find different things
frightening and what frightens you. This unit also features a Graded Quiz on the subjects from Units 1-3. It is strongly recommended that you take the Self-Quiz before attempting the Graded Quiz. We each come from a different place and culture. Tell us, with 3-4 sentences, what legends of horror are special to your culture. In other words, how does your culture connect to horror and what do they find frightening. Focus on how the story you read fits in with your cultural identity of fear. In addition, you must extend the discussion by responding to at least three (3) of your peers’ postings in the Discussion Forum and by rating their posts. Instructions for proper posting and rating are provided inside the Discussion Forum for each week. Learning Journal For this Learning Journal, we will build upon the Discussion Assignment. You already shared what your culture connects to horror, now tell me how you see yourself and your community react to fictionalized horror. What frightens you? The word limit is 250 words. Self-Quiz The Self-Quiz gives you an opportunity to self-assess your knowledge of what you have learned so far. The results of the Self-Quiz do not count towards your final grade, but the quiz is an important part of the University’s learning process, and it is expected that you will take it to ensure understanding of the materials presented. Reviewing and analyzing your results will help you perform better on future Graded Quizzes and the Final Exam. Please access the Self-Quiz on the main course homepage; it will be listed inside the Unit.
