Visit the Science Daily
website to choose a natural science–related news story published within the past six months on a topic of interest to you. Ensure the article meets the criteria provided in the Module One Activity Guidelines and Rubric.
Answer the following questions about your chosen scientific news story. Replace the bracketed text below with your responses.
Provide the title and link to your chosen news story so your instructor may locate it.

Link: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2023/06/230612114657.htm
Summarize the main idea of the news story you selected. This should only take 1–2 sentences.
Researchers from the University of Zurich and Pennsylvania State University recently conducted a study on how climate change and human activities affect giraffes in Tanzania. This study was the largest study done and analyzed giraffe populations in as well as outside protected areas in the Tarangire region. Surprisingly, the study showed that higher temperatures increased the survival rates of adult giraffes and wetter rainy seasons negatively impacted the survival of both adult giraffes and their babies. These findings provide us with new information regarding the relationship between climate change, human actions, and the survival of giraffes.
Briefly explain any prior knowledge and what you’d like to know more about regarding your selected news story.
Before reading this news story, I knew that climate change was a big danger to wildlife worldwide. However, I didn't realize how it specifically impacted giraffes when combined with human activities. This study has challenged my earlier beliefs about climate change and provided insight into how climate change, human actions, and giraffe survival are connected. Now, I'm interested in learning more about how climate change affects not only giraffes but also
other African herbivores.
Discuss the value of the scientific research presented in your selected news story for contemporary society.
The scientific study discussed in my chosen news article is incredibly important for today's society. It helps us protect worldwide wildlife better, raises awareness about climate change, educates people on environmental conservation, and deepens our scientific understanding of the issue.
