Quiz #1
1.
What is the author position?
Harrigton’s Position is to rethink the way we are teaching our children, traditional brick
and mortar schools shouldn’t be the only way.
2.
YOUR Response to Harrigton’s position?
I’m of two minds about Harrigton’s claim that we should be letting our children use their
critical thinking instead of traditional learning. On the one hand, I agree that it is critical
for us to let our child’s mind wander into critical thinking. On the other hand, I’m not
sure if it is a good concept to just start teaching a whole different way.
3.
Summarize Amy's position. “They Say”
Amy Harrigton’s article about rethinking education states we should be letting our
children’s imagination wander beyond critical thinking learning by being hands on in a
sense. With the traditional ways of teaching we don't give the children a good learning
capability, they just learn what we are teaching in a sense. Repetitive teaching isn't the
only way of learning, we just are accustomed to the norms of society tell us. We have
other options for learning such as giving the child the wheel and letting them take control
of how and when they learn. In conclusion, I agree with Harrigton’s claims there is no
better tool for learning than letting our imagination wander and be passionate about it
instead of going by the book per say.
4.
Quote Sandwich
According to Harrigton “ Filling in bubbles as a yardstick of achievement is a poor
measure of knowledge acquisition” (5). Agreeing with Harrigton’s claims, having a
different approach to teaching can be a tremendous change to a child's education and their
creativity, being able to have their own ideas and concepts.
