1-Were there any exceptional students in the class? Describe their characteristic, and their level of participation.
Mrs. Mota did not have any students with expectational needs. Her students seemed happy and excited about learning. She had a couple of boys who very hyper and I did ask her if they had ADHD, and they don’t. 2-Describe how the classroom teacher differentiated instruction or instructional
modifications for remedial and gifted students.
When Mrs. Mota was teaching I noticed she had a couple of girls and one boy sitting at a table together. After the lesson was taught she dismissed students to their tables to begin their independent work. She called the three students to her table and started to work with them. I had wonder why she was working with them. I walked over to her table to see what they were doing. She was working on their sight words with them because they still had not learned them. She explained to me that parents were Spanish speaking only and didn’t have help at home for
homework. She explain that she is taking a few minutes in the morning to help them learn their sight because they have not been able to start their blue books for reading. 3-Describe how the classroom teacher used assistive technology to help all students learn.
A few minutes before going to morning recess all students are able to get on their Chromebook and work on their “Boom Cards”. Mrs. Mota said that this is also extra practice to help students learn their students. 4-If you were teaching this grade level and subject, what would you do differently, and why?
If I was a teacher in this class I would do things differently. Mrs. Mota is a sweet teacher,
but she keeps it very simple. I think her students in the classroom need more lessons and worksheet to be done. Her students seemed low and not really understanding what is being taught to them. The way I would do the lesson is I would make sure that my students understand the lesson before going to their tables and working on their worksheets. I would create an EDI lesson because I know my students will get a better understand of what is being taught to them. I would want my students to be successful and ready for 1
st
grade. 5- Please expand on your personal thoughts and reflections about what was observed and how you might incorporate what you learned into your own classroom.
Being in Mrs. Mota classroom was great and I learned a few things that I don’t want to do as a teacher. I should have a journal and write down notes. I think this can help me reflect back on how a class went, what did or did not work in the classroom and how I would teach differently. I think this will make me a great teacher someday. Time Period: 8:15-1:15
Total Hours: 5 hours Subject/Lesson Observed: 1-Were there any exceptional students in the class? Describe their characteristic, and their level of participation.
Yes Mrs. Dinnerville had two students who were Autistic. They didn’t have an ABA aide
with them, but they do have a pull out with a special education teacher every day from 12:45-
1:30. During ELA/Literacy the teacher was going over a phonological awareness lesson and both
students seemed that they were understanding what was being taught. The lesson that was being taught was about syllables. The teacher was saying the students name and clapping it out and writing the number of syllables in the student’s name. Both students seemed to know what they were doing. The teacher sent the students to their centers and she started to work with small groups. During math centers again both students seemed very much engaged during math time. Mrs. Dinnerville mentioned that both students are doing great but sometimes they need a little one-on-one. Both students seemed very much engaged and participated in centers. 2-Describe how the classroom teacher differentiated instruction or instructional
modifications for remedial and gifted students.
Yes Mrs. Dinnerville did do instructional modifications for both students. Even through students were on the carpet participating during large group and when it was time for students to complete independent work Mrs. Dinnerville took both students to her table and went over the lesson again and helped both students with their work sheets. Mrs. Dinnerville said that she does this because she wants to make sure that the students understand what was being taught. She also
said that both students are very smart, but she knows that they need a little extra help.

3-Describe how the classroom teacher used assistive technology to help all students learn.
Mrs. Dinnerville mirrored her iPad to the TV, and the students were at their tables with their worksheets following along as Mrs. Dinnerville was teaching the lesson. After the students were done with their work sheets they are allowed to get their Chromebook and can work on their “Boom Cards”. The other students that were still completing their worksheets were given extra time to complete them. Mrs. Dinnerville also said that she had purchased “Boom Cards Autism” for both of those students. She said that it has helped them so much with learning their sight words. 4-If you were teaching this grade level and subject, what would you do differently, and why?
I think if I was teaching this class, I would teach the lesson differently and here is my reason. When Mrs. Dinnerville was teaching students how to clap out syllables by saying their names, I would have maybe used their sight words to clap out because I think this would help them learn their sight words. I would have also showed a video by Jack Hartmann about syllables and he’s videos are great to teach students. Also, when it was time for students to complete their worksheet independently I would have waited to take the two students to my table, because there was a few students getting up and walking over to her for help and she needed to stop what she was going. Overall, it was a great day with her and her students. 5- Please expand on your personal thoughts and reflections about what was observed and how you might incorporate what you learned into your own classroom. Being her classroom was great and I learned a few things, but I also learned how if you want to teach a lesson it may not go according to your plan. Sometimes in teaching, teachers need to be flexible. I think when I am in a classroom doing an observation I should have a journal and write down notes. I think this can help me reflect back on how a class went, what did
or did not work in the classroom and how I would teach differently. I think this will make me a great teacher someday. EDU 3266 Field Observation Journal & Log

Candidate’s Name: Mrs. Bangi CSU Instructor’s Name: Dr. Sarita-Pettus Wakefield Placement Location (Name of P-12 School): McFarland Unified School District/Browning Rd School Public, Private, Charter (Bold and italicize appropriate choices): Public Urban/Suburban/Rural (Bold and italicize appropriate choices): Rural Grade Level/Subject Area: TK/ELA/Math Day/Date: November 15, 2023
Time Period: 8:15-10:45
Total Hours: 5 hours Subject/Lesson Observed: Morning Songs/Morning Commitments, ELA- Learning Dynamics, and Math- Patterns 1-Were there any exceptional students in the class? Describe their characteristic, and their level of participation.
In this TK classroom there were 24 students and two of them were autistic. One student was in engaged with her peers and participating in classroom activities. During morning songs, she was really into the songs, and she seemed very happy and enjoyed what she was doing. She really enjoyed learning about the letter “A”. She was happy too when she was able to do an AB pattern. She was really excited when she put together a pattern with the cubes, “red, blue, red, blue”. She also had an ABA aide with her, and the aide was helping too. 2-Describe how the classroom teacher differentiated instruction or instructional
modifications for remedial and gifted students.
She really didn’t make any modifications for the student because the student had an ABA
aide with her. When the teacher was teaching the lesson and asking students questions the teacher did not skip her and would include the student in asking questions. Even through the student really didn’t understand what was being ask. The teacher made sure not to exclude her
from the lesson. 3-Describe how the classroom teacher used assistive technology to help all students learn.
The teacher would mirror the iPad to the TV that was in the classroom. When it was time for ELD/Literacy the teacher had slides of the letter of the week. The slides were 6 slides with different activities to teach students about the letter “A”. She also had created a smore site during covid distance learning and she was also teaching from that site too. Students were engaged of what was being taught to them. The students that had an ABA aide was also engaged too. The teacher was really great teaching students using the technology that she had. 4-If you were teaching this grade level and subject, what would you do differently, and why?
I don’t think I would do anything different in the lessons that were provided for students. Mrs. Bangi had her lesson and objects posted up in the classroom. She had the lessons aligned with the California Preschool Learning Foundations. Her students seemed to enjoy what was being taught to them and really excited to ask the questions too. 5- Please expand on your personal thoughts and reflections about what was observed and how you might incorporate what you learned into your own classroom.
I have to say that I really enjoyed being in Mrs. Bangi TK classroom. I was in three different classrooms for this assignments and this was the best classroom I had spent my time in. I learned so much in the little bit of time I was there. I really like how when students came in from morning recess they know to take off their jackets, put in their cubbies, and go sit down on their carpet space. When Mrs. Bangi was teaching the ELD/Literacy she had students go and sit down at the tables, she did this so the students can see the TV screen. I thought this was a great idea because I think students will learn better rather than being on the carpet. When I was leaving
I told her ”Thank you for letting me come and do my observation, I really enjoyed being here and learned so much”. She told me that I was more than welcomed back anytime and asked for my email address so she can share resources with me.
