Essay on Benefits Of Student Exchange Programs An exchange student is a student that leaves his/her country for a foreign one for a year, where she/he usually learns a new language and experiences a new culture. Nowadays, there are more than 35 international exchange programs from which very many high school students benefit. For instance, each year, almost 13000 students travel on American Field Service Intercultural Programs between 65 countries (AFS, 2011). Unfortunately, the number of students who go on exchange is still relatively low, even if the benefits they receive are big. Because the age of 15–18 is the perfect period of time for going on an exchange [1], students discover a new culture and develop themselves [2], adults can have a new experience by taking a student ...show more content... Consequently, students do not have to focus too much on their studies while being abroad; they can focus more on their personal growth. Furthermore, through exchange programs students develop themselves, thus contributing to society from an earlier age. Most people don't think about self– development until they experience a life–changing event – something that shakes them up and changes their perspective. An exchange year is such a one–in–a–lifetime experience that prepares young people for their responsibilities and opportunities in a changing, interdependent world. They experience the first culture shock when arriving in the host country and the second one when arriving back to their home countries. These shocks make youngsters more sociable, confident, adaptive, independent, flexible and definitely more tolerant. Besides, discovering a new culture also implies discovering more about their own culture and about themselves. Fortunately, all previously mentioned effects are long–lasting. An AFS long–term impact study showed that, 20–25 years after their experience abroad, AFS program alumni are more likely to be fluent in foreign languages, have higher education levels and be more comfortable in different cultural settings, both professional and personal, than their peers who did not have a secondary school intercultural sojourn experience (AFS, 2008). For instance, Catherine Coleman, an AFS alumni, is a former United States Air Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Essay about Teachers and Students Teachers and Students The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective. The experience of a student at school, especially at a younger age, in most cases sets the main base of the skills of that ...show more content... Unconsciously or not, they consistently reinforce and reward more 'feminine' behavior. Although it may be true that boys are more active than girls, but to say that they are treated differently is to be overly generalizing the situation. A teacher is supposed to be able to handle different types of children in the classroom, and cater to their activeness or passiveness in a class. For example, a teacher would try to involve a quiet and shy student as often as possible. The same goes for an active child; the teacher should be able to find activities for that child which would not only educate them, but also keep them busy. Thomas provides various arguments as to how boys and girls are different; therefore they are treated differently in a classroom. It cannot be argued that boys and girls are different, especially at such a young age, but to say that teachers specifically do treat boys in a rougher manner would be going too far. Thomas introduces the idea that society instills ideas of prejudice towards women in young boys, so that when they do go into a classroom governed by a female teacher, they are predisposed to be defiant and unruly. In my opinion, it is unfair to judge teachers based on the performance of their students on various tests. Thomas's article introduces the idea that as the number of female teachers is increasing, the performance of boys in school is declining. One much question whether it is in fact the teachers who cause this Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Students Absenteeism INTRODUCTION Absenteeism, according to Merriam– Webster dictionary means chronic absence. In the context of the school it is the habitual or intentional failure from going to school. It cannot be denied that every now and then, students may miss some school activities and lessons. But it becomes a problem if the student will be away from school for many days. Chronic absentee students are placed at a disadvantage both socially and academically. They miss out on critical stages of social interaction and development with their peers and at the same time impacts negatively on their academic progress. This can result to low self–esteem, social isolation, and dissatisfaction that could well have precipitated non–attendance in the first place. ...show more content... On the other hand, contamination of sickness and disease can be avoidable because of the absences of a person (Marburger, D.,2001) A student's attendance may be the grounds of the results of his or her learning performance. School administration and faculty may also affect the absenteeism rate of their student, and so as the population of those who practice absenteeism affect the administration and the school itself. Absenteeism in students affects their school performances especially when they are in a group or teamwork for their assignments and projects. Since grouping will help develops the students' cooperative and ability to share and gain knowledge from their group mates will also miss the opportunity of gaining knowledge from the absent student (Koppernhaver, 2003). According to Schmidt in 1983, absenteesm affects the students' ability to get high scores in examinations which can cause the decreasing of grades or the student may fail and will cause him/her to repeat the same year level. Students who have spent time attending lectures or classes have a significant, positive effect on students' performance. Students that participated exhibited higher grades and scores in examinations of the student. Marburger states tat the difficulty inferring the effect of absenteeism on performance because, once a student is absent in a class, he or she may miss the opportunity of learning other techniques. Struggles of College Students Alexa Ferris English 102 Ms. Jones April 10, 2012 Struggles of College Students A college student taking their first few steps onto a college campus is the day when they can finally feel the independence they were longing for. College is a place where students can find themselves. It can be a place for success as well as a place for partying. Attending college comes with many struggles. College tests every individual by staying above the influence, becoming a more organized student , and even making them step out of their comfort zone. When a student enters the college world, they are faced with the struggle of peer pressure. This pressure may include alcohol and drug abuse. Staying above the influence is hard to do when pressured into ...show more content... Waking up on time for class goes along with getting enough sleep. Students should time when they need to wake up for class and set an accurate alarm to wake them up. Staying organized also involves avoiding clutter. Many students will stack all of their papers together keeping them unorganized. This can cause many problems when studying for the final exam. To keep organized while studying, a student should have a quiet place to study. It would make it easier if a student had folders separating homework and notes for each of their classes. Having one's notes organized makes study time a lot smoother and less stressful. "...You also have to study 26 hours a week, according to professors. Or else you'll flunk out" (Silver). Studying is very important in college. College is a whole new world compared to high school," Alana Gardner from Indiana University confessed, "I used to study half an hour for test in high school. Omigosh I'm literally insane, you have to study at least two hours for a test in college!" (Silver). When a student enters the college world, it makes him/her nervous and excited for what is about to come into their lives. When going to college, many students go to a college a few hours away from their hometown. This can be hard to break away from one who had lived with their parents through high school, but can also be a great opportunity for independence. Many students who go to a college that is Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
My Life As A Student My life as a student has been a fairly good one. I've received good grades throughout all my years of high school and pride myself as an intelligent individual. But my individual ability to grow and learn has been always changing and shifting as I have grown. I think that currently, I am at a low point in my mindset and learning ability, but there is hope on the horizon. This essay will explore the growth and mindset of Will Roser, and how I can grow as a learner, friend, and individual. As a student, I have some habits that I rely on, both good and bad. I am usually a good student, receiving above average grades and I am moderately happy with them. My strength is that I always get everything done on time. I never have an excuse because my work is always done. I pride myself on that fact. And although that may seem like a good quality, the fact that I procrastinate so much does affect how good that work may be. So yes, I always finish my work which is always a good thing , but it may be at the expense of my sleep schedule. I tend to do most of my work the day before, despite telling myself over and over again that it needs to be done earlier. Luckily I have hope for my habits as I am still young. I still have to work on my procrastination but I think that I can improve as long as I start to see the benefits of starting work early. As William James says in his essay Habit , "The period between twenty and thirty is the critical one in the formation of intellectual and Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

My Life As a College Student Making the Transition When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one student to dissolve the bonds which have held him to his high school life, he can get fairly intimidated. Making the transition from high school to college can be a tough one. I remember my experience in such a transition vividly, as it was only a short time ago. Growing up in a family in which both my parents had master's degrees, it was naturally expected that I would go to college , and for both my own benefit as well as pleasing my parents, I chose to pursue so–called "higher education". Stepping up to this "higher" plateau is no small matter, however. You Can Pick Your Friends A typical junior or senior in high ...show more content... (It may be a bit of a stretch here to call myself a man yet.) The hardest part was getting settled into my new place. Fortunately, my campus has apartments in lieu of dormitories. I went to the lease office and paid what, at the time, seemed like a fortune, and ran up and down two flights of stairs for hours in an attempt to move in my belongings. My roommates seemed nice, and one of them had yet to move in, so the room next to mine remained vacant for a while. Boxed Noodles and Other Delicacies The Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest translates well to the college world. While living on my own, many of my long–dormant, carnivorous instincts kicked in. A trip to the local superstore meant that my pantry was well stocked, but replenishing it was another matter. I soon found myself planted firmly in a regimen of boxed noodles, frozen pizza, and TV dinners. While not the healthiest of diets, they did allow me enough carbohydrates to make it through twelve hours of classes. CB vs. CBW After the initial stumbling block more commonly known as residential life, I faced the towering challenge of settling into classes. Once I had registered (which was itself something of a dilemma), I had in my hand a sheet of abbreviations that rivaled a military briefing or a computer manual. My first class, on a Thursday morning, was located in a building called CBW, which stood for Classroom Building West. Surely the Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

My Experience As A Student Teacher Today's classroom is one of variety and challenge. I have seen first hand, in the classroom I observed this semester, the impact of various children's backgrounds. There were second graders from every walk of life and this diversity impacted how they interacted with each other, and, on some occasions, how the teacher interacted with them. When working with a group of children such as these, the educator must be aware of every aspect of diversity in their classroom. Diversity may come in many forms: academic achievement, race , language, or socioeconomic differences, and it may be difficult to address each of these needs individually. Regardless of these challenges, a successful teacher will have the ability to create an atmosphere which will turn the student's perceived "limitations" into their strongest ability. This what will keep them determined and ready to engage with the curriculum. My experiences as a student teacher showed me that the biggest barrier that I will have to surmount is finding a way to communicate the necessary information to my students so that they will learn and even thrive in my class. This is especially true when working in a low income area where students are worried about problems that are much bigger than school: where their next meal is coming from or how much money they can earn to help their family when they go to work that night. Such larger concerns will dwarf what happens in school, making homework seem irrelevant and/or impossible. With Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

My Experience As A College Student Essay Introduction I have enjoyed the opportunity to be an active student in this class. I have been delighted to be able to speak in open discussions during lecture and I wish that more professors practiced this method. The objective of this paper is for me to demonstrate an understanding of my learning experiences through the information that I have learned over the duration of this course. I have chosen to focus on my experience as a college student as the main topic of my self–assessment. Many topic discussions in class have given me insight to the way that humans obtain and process information. The class sessions on confirmation basis, critical thinking and sleep were all very relatable to a returning college student like me. In the previous assessment, I discussed these key elements in detail regarding how I maintained a balance of normality in my life. In this paper, I will explain self–regulation and how the intrinsic method, extrinsic method, adaptation, and self– actualization all relate to learning as a college student. Past School Experience As anyone could imagine making the decision to return to school was not an easy one. I had been out of college since December of 2011. The last college that I attended was the University of Phoenix. I attended the ground campus in Sandy Springs, GA and the hour commute was killing me. Although I only attended school once a week the amount of time that was required for me to put into my class assignments was horrendous. I was Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

I Am A Hard Working And Dedicated Student In daily life the term personality is very freely used by people with different meanings. Some people refer to the physical appearance like height, weight, color, body built, dress, voice, etc. Some other people refer to intellectual qualities like intelligence, activeness, way of speech, thinking and reasoning abilities, etc. However our psychological definitions tell us that personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. The study of personality focuses on two broad areas: One is understanding individual differences in particular personality characteristics, such as sociability or irritability. The other is understanding how the various parts of a person come together as a whole. Emotions are the intense feelings that are directed at someone or something. I have never thought of what my personality is, so when i was asked to write an essay on what my personality was it was just a great task for me to writing about my personality. Primarily, I am a hard working and dedicated student. I 've always put my best in everything that I 've done academically. I am not the type of person who gets put up to a big challenge and backs down. I will always rise to the peak of my production and accomplish my goal. On this description I will be describing myself in a wide variety of personality traits that are good, and bad. Descriptive Essay About A Student I have known Victor for four years and can say I know him very well. I've had the pleasure to share classes with Victor throughout high school, work on group presentations and projects, as well as take part in student panel information sessions to Latinx parents and students interested in applying to our school. Freshman year, Victor was a shy student and would only talk to me about our math homework and the way he understood complex equations. Although he's always been willing to stand out in class as a bright student, it wasn't until Junior year that I noticed him become more outspoken and willing to take social and academic risks. Junior year second semester, we had almost all of our college classes at North Carolina Central university together. I enjoyed working with him because he was great at communicating his ideas and always supported me to go the extra mile in everything we did. We've worked on two short movies for a class together and I admire his patience and detailed–oriented personality. Victor is the bravest person I know. Our first semester of senior year was extremely difficult for him because as much as he wants to go to college, he knew that he couldn't afford it. As a DACA student, there were only a limited number of scholarships he qualified for. On occasions when we had lunch together, he would breakdown in tears when we spoke about college. This did not get any after President Trump terminated the DACA program. However, he always had courage and fought his way to find his only hope: The Golden Doors Scholarship. He knew that this scholarship was the key to his future and worked day and night assuring that everything on his application was perfect. He never gave up. He knew that there were very few options, but never once did he not think about not going to college. College is his biggest dream and he didn't let anything stop him. After submitting his application, he was one of only 50 students to receive this full ride scholarship. Victor's persistence prevailed even when he thought his life was falling apart. It's a characteristic that makes him who he is and the reason I look up to him as a student and human being. Victor is also well outspoken and willing to defend his Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

My Personal Goals as a Student Essay My Personal Goals as a Student An obvious goal as a working adult returning to school is, of course, to earn a degree. My overall goal is no different than any other student, however, I also have several personal goals I hope to achieve while attending the University. Some of these goals are to acquire new skills and enhance my current business abilities, to apply what I learn in the classroom to forward my career, and to feel personal satisfaction of finishing something I started. Already having experience in the business world has proven to me that it is essential to have skills to maintain and improve daily functions. Three skills I'd personally like to improve on are my organizational, time management, and presentation ...show more content... By just going through the motions of coming to work everyday, only getting done what has to be done, and going home at the end of the day, one might realize that an everyday routine can quickly turn into a mundane professional life. At the same time, if a person does all of these things, but shows a bit of initiative to gain more knowledge of the job, they may see an opportunity to slightly move up in the company. The latter is my situation. My experience and knowledge of my department and its systems have afforded me the opportunity to move up within the department over the past five years, but I'm beginning to see a limit of how far those skills alone will allow me to climb. Being an expert in my field of pharmaceutical benefits doesn't translate into managing personnel just as knowing how to complete a task doesn't mean I'm able to give a clear presentation on how it should be done. Sure, I've been rewarded for the work I've done and knowledge I've obtained, but at some point, my employer will eventually see that more is needed to continue to promote me to higher, more management focused positions. My goal is to complete these courses and obtain my degree to prove that, if the situation arises, I can be the right person for the job. A more personal goal of mine is to finish what I've started. Essay about Student-Centered Learning Student–Centered Learning missing works cited Definition(s) There are several ways that student–centered learning can be described, and they all lead back to the same basic idea, the student. First, student–centered learning can be defined as a discipline that involves the interaction of a team of students that experience creative learning to be used in the real world (Thornburg, 1995). Thornburg (1995) also mention that students are essential to the classroom, just like a team member is essential to a game. He says that teachers are part of the definition of student–centered learning, but they are not the main attraction. The students are the focus, and the teacher is the one who can assist among small groups of students. Eaton ...show more content... Research and development helps with predicting the cost and the effectiveness of the approach on the system. The idea is that the research and development will increase students' future accomplishment. The first approach of student–centered learning that will be discussed is a teaching method called the Learning Cycle. A study was done with fifth grade students learning about sound. There were some students who were taught using the Learning Cycle, and some students were taught using the textbook approach. To see which method produced a greater understanding of sound the students were randomly selected, and an interview method was used in both groups to see what the students previously knew about sound. Then, in the instruction part of the procedure an instructor was used in both methods. In the Learning Cycle approach there were three phases: "exploration, concept introduction and concept application". During these three phases the students worked together in– groups while discussing their ideas and using manipulatives to act out the concepts. Also, the teacher would act as a facilitator, while the students discussed their ideas, and created more ideas and situations to figure out. During the lessons, the students were in active control and they could lead the lesson with their ideas and conclusions. The students were very excited to work together and the groups encouraged some of the students to share their ideas more willingly (Barman, & Barman 1996). Dinan Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Essay about Student Financial Assistance Student Financial Assistance George W. Bush said education is "the great lifting mechanism of an egalitarian society." He means, education is the great equalizer amongst individuals in a society established on equality. Unfortunately, access to education is not always as equal, nor are we living in an egalitarian society. In 1965, congress passed legislation, namely the Higher Education Act of 1965, in order to diminish the distance between students and the reality of higher education. Despite their seemingly positive intentions, the office of Student Financial Assistance has evolved into a very unpopular entity of the executive branch . Applicants are continuously frustrated by the aid, or lack of aid, that they are awarded. I ...show more content... Why are there so many loans as opposed to grants offered?" And plainly, "Why didn't I get more?" Questions such as these, combined with crude assumptions, lead to an overall negative opinion and an overall distrust of the system. I conducted an informal survey among 150 college students asking them if their opinion of student–aid and how it is allocated is a negative one, a positive one, or if they feel indifferent on the topic. The results are not astounding with over 68% reporting a negative opinion, while only a little over 12% said they felt positively about it. The distrust of the system goes as far as some applicants feeling that the only way to attain the amount of aid they need is by cheating on the application. A friend of mine, who will remain anonymous, testified that she did not claim her father's six–figure income as contributing to the family's income. This is possible because her parents are divorced. On the application form, the office allows the applicant to distinguish whether both or only one parent is contributing to the tuition. The intent of this clause was to aid applicants who have a parent who will not be contributing to the cost of their education; it was not intended to aid applicants in cheating the government, and furthermore, in cheating their peers. Another friend of mine, whom I interviewed because we once Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

International Students Essay example Differences between American Students and International Students Most young people believe that studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and learn from them. However, in the United States it is not as good as they thought because International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot handle it very well. Therefore, in the United States the life of an international student is very unfavorable if people compare it to the life of an American student. International students have to learn a new language to study, they cannot work while studying, and their tuition is much more expensive. When people moves to the United Stated to study they ...show more content... They know their structure and have a very superior vocabulary, so they can compose excellent essays. In addition, since American students speak English very well, they do not have any problem participating in class. They have confidence in themselves, so they will not be afraid of saying something wrong. Consequently, because American students do not have to learn any language to study their mayor, it is much easier for them to achieve excellent grades. Most university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is not going to have any problem speaking the language. For example, last semester a friend from Venezuela who is studying at Miami Dade College decided that he wanted to get a job in order to have his own money. Essay On Student Self Reflection Student Self–Evaluation/Reflection Students must self evaluate/reflect at the end of each clinical course by answering the statements/questions below. This paper is evaluated based on how completely each section is answered as well as grammar/spelling/punctuation. 1. Describe the things (at least 3) you felt good about in the clinical experiences this term. There were many things that I felt good about this term in my pediatric clinical experience. I was very impressed with my assessment skills. I was not very confident with my pediatric assessment skills, however I discovered that the assessment was not very difficult especially when you followed the head to toe assessment. I would actually consider a career in pediatric setting and before this rotation I would of never thought this would be an option. 2. Describe at least two things you felt did not go well during this term's clinical experience. One item I felt did not go well was the lack of documentation at the site. I had to complete many learning modules on charting before starting this rotation, so assumed that I would be charting. I discovered that there was a problem in the past with students charting and they had discontinued students charting over year ago. Another item that I felt did not go well was the lack of observation of clinical care with my preceptor. I would go in and evaluate the patient before her and then she would follow. The clinic was very busy and I was always trying to catch up with her to see if our diagnosis and plan of care were consistent. I did shadow her the first day and then I saw all clients on my own. 3. What new learning came about because of both the good and not so good experiences? What new skill or insight was developed? The new skill I learned this

My Journey As A High School Student Essay At around this time four years back, I was just beginning my journey as a high school student. I had decided that I wanted to tryout for my schools ' dance team. I had previously danced with a studio by the name of Barton and Williams School of Dance, since the age of three, so I was excited to learn that I could be on a team at my school. I received all of the information that was necessary regarding the tryout dates, along with the paperwork that would be needed. We had to learn two combinations, as well as the actual tryout dance , within three days. On the day of the judging portion of the tryouts, everyone received a number. The judges would throw us into groups of three or four by randomly choosing our numbers. We needed to perform the two combinations individually and the actual routine as a group. Once all of the groups were done, we had to wait for a good two or three hours for the results. Everyone had been so nervous. Finally, the judges entered the room and posted the list of the numbers of the people who had made the cut onto the wall. I was so excited to see my number on the list and to be able to say that I had made it. In the very beginning of the season, my team attended the National Dance Alliance camp, or NDA camp. This camp consists of nothing but dance for four days and three nights. It is located in Maryland, at Towson University, so we had to rent a bus in order to get there. About a month before camp, the team hired a guest choreographer to teach Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
