With a growing population and rising demand for housing, there has been an increase in pressure on rental markets across the province. This has caused rent prices to skyrocket while wages remain stagnant. As a result, many Albertans are unable to afford safe and secure housing that meets their needs due its high cost relative to their income levels. The root causes of this problem can be attributed largely to economic factors such as low incomes among individuals or families who have difficulty affording adequate shelter; insufficient social assistance programs available at both provincial and federal levels; lack of access or awareness about existing subsidies/grants; limited availability of public services such as child care support which make it difficult for single parents with children living below poverty line from accessing employment opportunities that could help them meet basic needs like food and shelter etc.; inadequate supply or availability of affordable rental units due shortages created by rapid urbanization causing displacement etc..
