The Economy Of The Us Auto Industry The US Auto industry is facing the reality that new generations are not the same generations on which they built their empires. As information and global awareness are more prevalent than ever before, the consumer only wants to do what feels right to them, not what they have been told to want, and statistic show that the things the new consumer is looking for above all, is the lower cost of owning a car, followed fuel efficiency and how environmentally friendly it is. After the boom of urban sprawled life with the baby boomers, that was maintained to a certain degree by generation X , the car industry thrived, along with the housing prices, and sales, both industries, housing and automobile , achieved their greatest heights together, and were similarly affected when the Great Recession hit. Some have suggested that the automobile sector has experienced the same bubble as the housing sector and that it will never return to boom conditions again (Boudette and Shirouzu 2008). As the car industry is in the process of recuperation, and as it climbs it is faced with the new reality of a changing demographics of its consumers. Generation Y is now the prime target for the auto industry, they are also the largest potential consumer market, and the auto industry has to work on getting this new generation interested in their products. To achieve this goal, it is important that the industry acknowledge that the consumer patterns are not the same. A global consciousness has developed in Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Automobiles Essay Automobiles The invention of the automobile in the early 20th century has had an adverse affect on our environment. Our society has used technology in order to advance the automobile to make it better and more efficient. The automobile industry knows what sells and they take advantage of that. With this growing technology to advance automobiles also comes flaws. The biggest and most obvious flaw is pollution. Because of pollution, we find ourselves asking the question of whether this technology has helped our society more than it has hurt it. Automobiles are the cause of 60 percent of our air pollution today (Dewees 214). There are four main sources in which pollution comes from an automobile. The first, on a hot day the sun will ...show more content... What really happens is that there are hydrocarbon atoms left over from the combustion process because they did not burn properly or at all. Another pollutant that is given off by automobiles along with hydrocarbons is carbon monoxide. This too is also a result of the incomplete process of the combustion of fuel. Carbon monoxide is emitted directly from the tailpipe. There are specific times when this is common, when your car does not get enough air during starting and it chokes, when cars are not tuned properly, during cold weather the level of carbon monoxide being emitted increases due to more fuel to start the car, and also at high altitudes. The office of Mobile Sources did a study in 1992 which showed that carbon monoxide levels exceeded the Federal air quality standard in 20 U.S. cities . Some other pollutants besides hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide that are given off are nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides. These nitrogen oxides are given off by the high pressure in the automobiles engine where nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air react and then form the nitrogen oxide. All of these pollutants effect the environment and people in a negative way. Next we will take a look at what exactly these pollutants do to us. The most dangerous and widespread of all pollutants are hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons emitted by automobiles create smog, which in turn acts as a ground level ozone layer and causes many health Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Automatic Sentence Generator AUTOMATIC SENTENCE GENERATOR SYSTEM FOR SPEECH RECOGNITION APPLICATIONS. José Luciano Maldonado. Universidad de Los Andes, FACES, Núcleo La Liria, edificio G, piso 1, Instituto de Estadística Aplicada y Computación, IEAC, Mérida, Venezuela. luzmalvy@telcel.net.ve maldonaj@faces.ula.ve Abstract. We describe an experimental computer program which can generate sentences automatically. To do so, models are first created based on contexts of interest. These models incorporate word histories that are detected in a context dependent training set of sentences. Not only will we be able to automatically generate sentences associated with the theme being modeled, but we will also be able to help recognize phrases and sentences. In other words, this ...show more content... The training or modeling of the context consists basically of the search, coding and saving of the occurrence of contiguous word histories corresponding to the sentences and paragraphs of the training corpus. We create coded blocks of word histories. The words in the histories are coded by way of whole numbers. In figure 2, we give an idea of how we code the histories in the training corpus. The first word that appears in the first training corpus (recall that we can work incrementally with various corpus) is assigned the number 1, then, the next different word is assigned the number 2, and so on. Automotive Technology Essay Automotive Technology In a world that is quickly becoming ever dependant on technology, people take many things for granted. For example: nearly every day you and I get into our cars to go to work, school, shopping, or anywhere else you can think of. Naturally, car manufacturers are constantly coming up with new technologies to get people to buy their car over the next manufacturers ; and a lot of these new inventions seem straight out of a sci–fi movie, or book in this case. One of the most important part of any car is the tires. Tires are in constant contact with the road, and like the Goodyear commercial says, "So much is riding on your tires." "You want to talk contact patches? Your car's tires have tiny contact patches, ...show more content... Car engines are another part of the vehicle that is continuously being upgraded and improved. How often do you turn on the TV and hear a commercial about the newest model car that is faster than last year's? Unlike a bimbo box or a Burb beater, the Deliverator's car unloads that power through gaping, gleaming, polished sphincters. When the Deliverator puts the hammer down, shit happens" (Stephenson 2). Lotus has developed a new sports car "capable of accelerating from 0–60mph in just 4.4 seconds, traveling at 125mph" (Toshiba's office technology makes Lotus sports cars go faster). "This car can go so fucking fast that if a cop took a bite of a doughnut as the Deliverator was entering Heritage Boulevard, he probably wouldn't be able to swallow it until about the time the Deliverator was shrieking out onto Oahu" (Stephenson 13). Of course, this gives the drivers the ability to travel to their desired destination at faster speeds, which is good in cases like The Deliverator's pizza delivery job, and makes for more exciting sports car races, but what about the negative side of this? According the car–accidents.com, the number of fatal crashes increased .7% from 1999 to 2000, the number of nonfatal crashes Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

This discussion has now become urgent especially since the advent of new technologies and their implications for education. Today there are many studies, ideas and experiences ongoing in education . Description Of A Car Accident Essay Essay 1: Car Accident The clock read 4:38 pm and we knew we had to be home by 5:00 pm. Ifraz and I sat patiently in the car waiting for Nida and my sister. As soon as they arrived, we quickly left on our excursion back home. The sun began to set through the cracks in the clouds and darkness was creeping in. The day consisted of a few sprinkles here and there which was just enough to moisten the roads. On the journey home, I was in the driver 's seat while Ifraz was beside me and my sister and Nida were in the back. We all got lost into our conversations and had a great time telling jokes to one another. I kept my eye on a dark blue car right in front of us which seemed to be in a rush. Just as I took my eyes off the car and looked at Ifraz to speak to him, the car in front of us swerved into the right lane. As I looked back onto the road, I searched for the dark blue car, but it was already ahead of two cars in the right lane. My vision turned back to the road in front of me. Just as I did so, my stomach clenched and I held in my breath as I saw a stopped vehicle waiting to turn left about 30 feet in front of me. Thoughts began flooding into my mind on how to maneuver around this vehicle. As I looked to my right for an escape route, another car was right beside me, blocking the getaway. I abruptly pressed on the brakes and all I heard were the tires screeching, trying to grasp onto the slippery road to stop themselves. Time seemed to slow down a great deal while we tried Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Gigli's Grand Theft Auto Gigli's paper predicted the smash hit video game Grand Theft Auto pretty well when describing "low–quality entertainment featuring violence, sexual content, undesirable role models and lack of diversity". However, I thought much of her paper is outdated and sees the ideal world through the eyes of her generation. The Hunger Games (the books and the films) is a vision of the world through the eyes of our generation. I will use this to address Gigli's concerns about the lack of quality in and control over modern media. Before I do that, I would like to recap on four of Gigli's concerns: The decreasing role of traditional sources of influence The rise of individualism over collective achievement Young people thinking less for themselves ...show more content... Our generation is not, and we trust family, friends and even strangers in digital networks. Our generation does not trust advertising any more. We are most influenced by each other. We have to make our own decisions. Gigli's paper did not predict how the Internet would change lives. Young people created Facebook and YouTube and all of a sudden we were the ones creating the media. When we want to know what a word means, we look it up straight away on Urban Dictionary. If the entry is not there, we create it. Katniss in the Hunger Games faced many dangerous situations but the children did work together – they shared information and food. They cared for each other even though they knew that would have to kill or be killed in the end. We look to our peers, not authority, for advice. The Hunger Games is a very uplifting portrayal of youth. It is also very violent, disturbing and disrespectful of authority. It echoes the way we use new media – we don't trust, but we share with others and learn from their experience. Gigli is overall wrong: yes, there is a total lack of quality control now in media, but it works in the same way the brain works. We belong to neural networks that provide us with experience and advice – from there we make our own decisions. The society that Gigli feared was not being protected has changed. Values she thought were important are not as useful Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Autobiography Of My Childhood In second grade, I finally figured out that something was wrong with me. There always had been, and it was only getting worse. For as long as I had been alive, I was never like other kids. As a baby, I never crawled more than a few inches. But one day, just for fun, my dad stood me up across the room from my mom. "Walk to Mama," he told me. Despite all expectations, I did. I got up and walked to Mama. I didn 't even stumble. It wasn 't that I couldn 't walk, I just hadn 't needed to. My mom carried me everywhere. It was a sign, albeit missed, of what was to come. I had also never spoken, not even baby babble. Many of my parents ' friends took this as proof that I was autistic. My parents, however, refused to believe them. I ...show more content... The school tried to discourage my parents from thinking I was gifted, saying things like 'A lot of people think that about their kids,' and 'She's fine where she is.' Fortunately, my parents knew something was up. At Ms. Kafka's urging, my parents got me tested. The results came back positive. I was gifted. Very. The school resumed its rhetoric with even more force. They didn 't want me to leave. I was dragging up their test scores. My parents, however, did want me to leave, as did I. We started looking at schools. Two favorites emerged: Nova Classical Academy and Minnetonka Public Schools's Navigator program. Nova was a public charter school in Saint Paul, much closer to my house in Minneapolis, and was recommended by my IQ test proctor. The Navigator program was, unsurprisingly, in Minnetonka, and my parents had found it on their own. Due to my father's anxieties about me going to a charter, they decided to look more closely at Minnetonka. A little while later, I was pulled from my school to go to a Navigator orientation. As soon as I walked in to the classroom, I felt every pair of eyes on me. I was in the worst situation imaginable–I was the newcomer. I didn 't know anything about this strange new place, half an hour away from my school, my house, and anything and anyone I knew. Worse, in less than a year, these kids could be my classmates. I took a spot at the very back table. There was only one other student there–a blonde girl who quickly introduced herself Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

In the brave new world of Common Core, all tests will be delivered online and graded by computers. This is supposed to be faster and cheaper than paying teachers or even low–skill hourly workers or read student essays. But counting on machines to grade student work is a truly bad idea. We know that computers can't recognize wit, humor, or irony. We know that many potentially great writers with unconventional writing styles would be declared failures (EE Cummings immediately to mind). But it is worse than that. Computers can't tell the difference between reasonable prose and bloated nonsense. Les Perelman, former director of undergraduate writing at MIT, created a machine, withe help of a team of students, called BABEL. He was interviewed ...show more content... White. Then again, Mr. Perelman wrote the essay in less than one second, using the Basic Automatic B.S. Essay Language Generator, or Babel, a new piece of weaponry in his continuing war on automated essay–grading software. "The Babel generator, which Mr. Perelman built with a team of students from MIT and Harvard University, can generate essays from scratch using as many as three keywords. "For this essay, Mr. Perelman has entered only one keyword: "privacy." With the click of a button, the program produced a string of bloated sentences that, though grammatically correct and structurally sound, have no coherent meaning. Not to humans, anyway. But Mr. Perelman is not trying to impress humans. He is trying to fool machines. "Software vs. Software "Critics of automated essay scoring are a small but lively band, and Mr. Perelman is perhaps the most theatrical. He has claimed to be able to guess, from across a room, the scores awarded to SAT essays, judging solely on the basis of length. (It's a skill he happily demonstrated to a New York Times reporter in 2005.) In presentations, he likes to show how the Gettysburg Address would have scored poorly on the SAT writing test. (That test is graded by human readers, but Mr. Perelman says the rubric is so rigid, and time so short, that they may as well be Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Autopilot Cars and Systems Through the use of autopilot cars, we believe we can significantly decrease fossil fuel emissions, by reducing the wastage of gas through human error, and to decrease traffic. An autopilot system mostly used in aircraft, boast, spacecraft, missiles, and others. Main component for this system is known as self–steering gear. This system manages the trajectory of such vehicle without any hands–on control by human beings. In that, autopilot can replace human resources and control the vehicle. This allows humans to be less stressful and requires less concentration on driving vehicles. Cars already have "autopilot"; some cars can operate self–parallel parking system; other cars have cruise function, which accelerates the cars and keeps them at a certain speed without using the gas pedal. For long drives on the highway, people use this autopilot system readily. This is a starting point to implement this autopilot system to our cars. Many improvements are on progress. Nowadays, autopilot system has made remarkable achievements. An autonomous car, also known as a driverless car, is a representative vehicle capable of fulfilling the human transportation capabilities of a tradition car, which has adopted autopilot system. An autonomous car senses its environment with special techniques such as radar, lidar, GPS, and computer vision. Especially, a car interprets sensory information to identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signs. Upon these Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
