Persuasion Journal 1 Persuasion Journal The Coronavirus has left many families without a source of income. Debt collectors in many places continued to collect on debts without warning. In the case of Veronica Cavalli, an unpaid medical bill for her disabled husband led to her wages being garnished with no warning during the pandemic. She had already lost her job due to the Coronavirus and was left with no money and an overdrawn bank account. Cavalli had no money to feed her family with and didn’t find out until her children were at the store trying to buy groceries (Sainato, 2020). However, the White House economic advisor feels that additional stimulus packages are not necessary (CNN Wire, 2020). This related to my degree, Public Health, because it is discussing how the widespread pandemic left many without hope. The increased time at home has led to more time for children to explore the internet alone. This mixed with the rise in unemployment can lead to a rise in human trafficking. Due to the lack of income, desperate people may turn to criminal acts to make money. With the decreased face to face interactions, it could be harder to catch the signs of human trafficking (Greenbaum et all, 20020). I could not find many other articles about this topic. Originally it had really inspired me since it was something I had never considered before and it fit into my public health field because it was about the pandemic, but it was too specific. I will likely write about the economic effects of the coronavirus because it is still a hot button topic to many people. This topic centers on persuasion because many believe another stimulus check is needed to keep food on the table, while others believe the financial aid the government has provided through unemployment and stimulus checks is more than enough. Both groups are trying to convince the other that they are right. When writing about this topic, I will take the stance that we need more financial assistance. The audience of my article would be

Persuasion Journal 2 the general public, specifically adults. This topic is relevant to them because it currently affects almost every adult’s income or economic status.
