2. Identify the tools in Adobe Illustrator you used to complete each of the six design tasks and describe where the tools/features are located in the software application. 1. Change the background color to one you believe is more appealing. I used the magic wand tool to select the background and then I chose the color I wanted and then the paint bucket tool. 2. Remove the last “Sponsored by:” item (mouse with cheese in bottom right corner). I used the direct selection tool to select the picture and then I deleted the picture. 3. Move the remaining three “Sponsored by:” items so they are evenly spaced across the bottom. I used the selection tool and moved each of the pictures so that they were spaced evenly. 4. Add a drop shadow to the circle with text. I went up to the effects drop down panel and then went to the illustrator effects and under stylize.
5. Add a text box above the picture of cheese using the following content: “Thousands of different varieties of cheese: cow, goat, sheep, yak, camel—even reindeer and horse.” In the tools menu I clicked the text box, dragged it above the picture of the cheese and typed the content. I changed the font size so that people could read it. 6. Replace the picture of cheese with any cheese-related image of your choosing. I googled cheese images, picked one that I liked then I went to file, place and chose the image and resized it to where I liked it. Adobe InDesign 1. Insert an image of the poster you edited in Adobe InDesign.

For each of the six design tasks, explain which tool and software application you found easiest to use in accomplishing the task and why. Because there was a real template, I found Adobe Illustrator to be the most user-friendly. I also think Illustrator is a little easier to use because every tool is laid out for you in the tool menu. The Adobe Photoshop assignment was the most challenging for me because I had to work with a PDF, whereas the remaining two were in the program itself, making it more difficult to manipulate the image. 2. For each of the six design tasks, explain which tool and software application you think had the best result and why.

I feel like the one for Adobe Illustrator provided the greatest results because the picture appears clean and quite professional. The tools were straightforward to use and quick to locate. I like that I didn't feel like I was having trouble with that portion of the task. My favorite tool was the magic wand because it appeared to be a universal tool. Analyzing and Improving Designs Effective Graphic Design Elements 1. Capture the newsletter as the front image, and then the back image, and use one of the software applications to circle or highlight 2 to 3 effective design elements, based on the five elements and the six principles of design defined in Chapter 2 your textbook, Graphic Design: Learn It, Do It . Insert the captured image below.
2. Name each highlighted graphic design element (i.e., “White space”) and explain how the newsletter effectively applied this design element.

Logo squares- I believe that keeping the logos contained within the same shape, regardless of their size or shape, creates harmony and balance. Shoe colors – By incorporating small bursts of color throughout the dense text, the author highlights the hierarchy of the article's core theme while also providing the eye with a breather. Ineffective Graphic Design Elements 1. Capture the newsletter as the front image, and then the back image, and use one of the software applications to circle or highlight 2 to 3 ineffective design elements, based on the five elements and the six principles of design defined in Chapter 2 your textbook, Graphic Design: Learn It, Do It . Insert the captured image below.
2. Name each highlighted graphic design element (i.e., “font”) and explain how the newsletter ineffectively applied this design element. The green shoes and the haphazard blue box were, in my opinion, the two that were not employed properly for the first one. I wish to say that the green shoes would have been in space. It was quite difficult for me to focus on reading instead of

the shoes the entire time because I feel like they divert attention away from the actual words around them much too much for people with ADHD like me. The next one was the arbitrary blue box, about which I can say two things: first, I have no idea what it is even doing there, and second, I don't believe it has anything to do with the newsletter. Even though they employed it, I have no idea what they were trying to accomplish. But it could’ve been space if used correctly maybe. I believe that the man on the back was a little off, as was the couch that you had a chance to win. Making Improvements Determine which combination of software applications and tools (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign) you will use to make needed improvements to the newsletter design. Be sure to identify the most appropriate software application and tools to address each ineffective design element you identified, and explain your selection. I would use InDesign, which is designed for greater volumes of text, to modify the newsletter. I would use the available area to make the typeface larger, starting with the font itself. using a typeface that is comparable to the text to keep everything consistent. Using the fill and stroke tools, I would also give the font some color to match the other titles. The selection tool, text tool, fill and stroke options, and the text spacing options in the panels are the tools I believe I would need to successfully execute this work. But I also think you could use Illustrator to make the correct changes. I would start by removing the shoes from the center of the words because I believe they attract far too much attention from the newsletter. Maybe put the three so it won't be the

center of attention. Second, remove the blue box; once more, I have no idea why it was there in the first place. In the back, I believe that making the man a little more transparent or perhaps shifting his legs would allow you to view the entire couch that he is seated on. I simply believe that the coloring is out of proportion, therefore you might try switching up the colors a little.
