Identify some use cases when a caching-only DNS server should be used and why this would be the best choice for the use case. • A DNS server that solely caches data decreases outgoing DNS traffic and improves name resolution. • It takes client queries, executes them against other name servers, caches the results, and sends them back to the client. • Outgoing DNS traffic is reduced, and name resolution is accelerated. • The DNS cache exists to speed up the DNS lookup process that converts a domain name to an IP address, so it's a good idea to use it. • Caching-only DNS servers can improve security for your organization when used as forwarders that are under your administrative control. • However, if DNS caching is not correctly handled, it can jeopardize webpage access and network security.

Identify some use cases for a DNS server to be configured as a forwarder and why this would be the best configuration for the use case. • If you have only one DNS Server then you should configure it as a forwarder. • You'll want to do this to protect yourself from redundancy even if you have multiple DNS Servers. • Whenever a DNS server receives a query and resolves it using forwarders (as with Root Hints), it caches the results it sent back to the client. • This decreases the Internet traffic over the network and improves the response time for DNS clients.
