Virtual Lab #6 John Travoltage Name: Section Number: Date of Submission: Instructions: Please launch the simulation in the link below to help you answer the following questions. Link: https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/john-travoltage Click and move “John’s” leg back and forth to create more static electricity. Now click and move “John’s” hand closer to the door knob. What happens to the built-up electrons in John’s body when you move his hand away from the door knob but continuously move his leg? The electrons build up in his legs and throughout his body until his hand is moved toward the knob. When moved toward the knob, the electrons are released. What about the door knob makes the electrons want to flow to it (Hint: draw the sea of electrons model to help explain the path of electricity)? When the hand is moved toward the knob, a wave of electricity between the finger and knob is created and the electrons are then released from his body. How will you utilize the information in the course to achieve your professional goals? I can use this information to better understand electricity and how it works in my everyday life. For example, when I randomly get shocked from touching something that has too much energy. I can understand why and how this happens.
