There is a fundamental difference between HTML and xHTML. What rules were applied to xHTML that are not needed for HTML, and why were those rules put in place? Rules: Uses markup language format as opposed to HTML which uses a document file format. In XHTML every tag and attribute must be in lowercase, case does not matter when using HTML. Doctype at the top of the file is mandatory when using XHTML, as opposed to HTML where it is not required.
