Career Option #1: Computer systems engineer Education/Training Requirements (Identify the specific steps to take to prepare for this career option. For example, what level of degree is required; what should one major in?): If looking for a job as a computer systems engineer, you should most likely major in computer and science information, IT, computer science, engineering or mathematics. Outlook: On Focus2, it says the employment may rise from two percent to four percent by 2028. This is slower than the average projected growth. Salary: $105,290 - $170,760 Primary Work Activities: studying a customer’s information and handling needs to identify new applications for things such as medicine, banking etc. They can also decide what type of software’s are needed for computers Skills: Computer system engineers should have skills like computer programming, problem solving, troubleshooting, equipment selection and more. Values: as a computer systems engineer, income and independence are valued and more Reason(s) why career option is of interest to you: I like how much money it makes, and I am interested in the computer fields. For example, what level of degree is required; what should one major in?): You should most likely major in computer sciences and information technology. Most managers have at least a bachelors, masters , or a PHD degree in these fields of study Outlook: Focus2 says, “projected to grow 14%” from 2018 to 2028. Salary: $105,290 - $170,670 Primary Work Activities: Managers must have a good skill in teamwork and communicating. They will also probably spend most time indoors, and sitting. They must also be accurate and make good decisions for the team. Skills: Managers usually have skills such as computer programming, decision making, listening, negotiation, problem solving and speaking/listening skills. Values: Most managers value their income and independence as a worker or employee. Reason(s) why career option is of interest to you: This career seems very similar to the computer systems engineer, so I will probably be fine with both. I only really see slight differences. For example, what level of degree is required; what should one major in?): Most controllers seem to have a bachelors or a master’s in accounting finance or mathematics. Outlook: This field is seen to grow about 3% from 2018 to 2028, from 5% to 8% Salary: $87,530 - $168,790 Primary Work Activities: Controllers seem to be leading others, being accurate, making calls and receiving calls and mathematics for financials Skills: Controllers must be socially perceptive, good at problem solving and definitely be good at mathematics. Values: Most controllers look for income independence and stability. Reason(s) why career option is of interest to you: This career seems to be very mathematically heavy, which I am not interested in, but if it provides really good stability in the future I am interested.
