Unit 1 Discussion You will learn about the different network topologies this week. Describe the difference between a physical and logical topology. Then, choose a physical topology (bus, ring, star, mesh, hybrid) and research the pros and cons of your chosen model. Share your findings with the class in your discussion post. (Buhagiar, 2022) Physical topology, unlike logical topology, is where all your items are prepared and ready to run. You are looking not just at the network to see if it works but also to know why. Logical Topology is your preparation piece in terms of networks. It is when you do your pre-drawing before a job or a concept of operation before an event, and you step back to look at the big picture to see if it makes sense. Star topology is used in most buildings today. Network devices within the building are all wired back to a hub or switch. It does not matter where the network devices are throughout the building; they will connect in a central location. The pros for this type of topology are that it is easier to diagnose any failures within the system. You will know where to go if something goes down, like a switch. Although having a central location is excellent, a con for the star topology is that every device connected to the switch will have a service connection if a switch fails (Buhagiar, 2022). Star topology in execution has similar cons to the bus topology configuration. The configuration seems quite simple, but why do we choose to have a single point of failure in our systems? Reference
