Abstract
In 2010, this article was published by the Office of Community Oriented Policing
Services (COPS). The United States Department of Justice is known as COPS. It is a requisite
for advancing community policing initiatives by providing information and resources (COPS,
2010). There are many successful ways of communicating with others through police. The
content of the article can be interpreted to mean that improving the relationship between police
and the public can greatly decrease crime rates (COPS, 2010). I agree entirely with the author.
“Key Leadership Strategies to Enhance Communication
Community policing is an effective way for cops to combat crime in society. Miller
[2017] postulates that policing of the public brings citizens and officers together to prevent
community problems and solve crimes. Community policing makes police more connected to the
people. It helps prevent crime by preventing things from happening in the first place (Miller,
2017). Depending on the circumstances, community policing may seek to prevent crime, detect it
early, or handle its consequences when it takes place. In order to effectively tackle crime
prevention, community involvement is essential. This highlights the importance of community
policing to protect against violent crimes (Miller, 2017).
Many lawyers argue that police are obligated to provide quality information to the
community they serve. In response to expectations, the agencies should inform people about
criminal activities and other significant events (COPS, 2010). Law enforcement agencies hope
that TV, radio and print media can broadly disseminate the warning. Learning and research
material are shared on social media sites. These preventive measures will prevent law
enforcement from fully controlling the timeliness and accuracy of information disseminated to
the public (COPS, 2010). The government agencies' ability to secure data has weakened over the
last decade (COPS, 2010). Snow asserts that policymaking is vulnerable to information security.
The attacks on police systems may lead to the investigations for the crime, the loss of evidence,
and identifying suspects and witnesses. It shows that although technology has expanded our
communication abilities, it also has limitations that could undermine communication between the
police and the public.
COPS (2010) has developed ten core activities that help improve police communication.
We should encourage and motivate each other in the security industry (COPS, 2010). This will

provide the police with additional skills to do their jobs better. The police should have access to
social media to get timely and accurate information about the local community. Therefore, law
enforcement agencies should set a high standard for their overall aims and vision (COPS, 2010).
Agencies will have to establish a relationship with internal, external, and political components to
develop the expected system. The importance of the external community should not be
underestimated. This consists of various factors: business, neighborhoods, special interest
groups, transient populations, and the media (COPS, 2010). The internal public consists of labor
unions and civilian employees of the police. Politics involves democratically elected officials.
Law enforcement agencies need to perform differently based on the stakeholders. The external
public may have a concern for their safety. However, the pragmatist community is more
concerned with their electoral race. The peacekeeping forces need to consider their
communication approaches (COPS, 2010). These organizations need to allocate the appropriate
resources in order to manage effective communication. This will make it easier for law
enforcement agencies to communicate and for the public to obtain reliable information.
This is because COPS asserts that COPS police officers mainly rely on Public
Information Officers to provide information, host press conferences, and make public
announcements. PIO is responsible for good relationships with news reporters. COPS (2010)
suggested that the IPM personnel have the intention to achieve, be aware of the responsibilities
and demands, and be able to prioritize in timeline information. PIOs should have a
comprehensive understanding of community development, demographic data generation, and
innovative marketing strategies. All government agencies must take the time to thoroughly teach
all PR officers about media relations and social media practices. (Orrick, 2008). Social skills
training must be implemented with PIOs.
Law enforcement agencies reached out to the community through advanced technology
(COPS, 2010). The technology could reduce and solve crime in the right way. Cost/benefit
analysis is a convenient tool for law enforcement personnel. Resources for law enforcement
often come from the internet and many sites (COPS, 2010). There is an optimistic view on the
use of technology to improve crime. The New York Police Department has a blog too. This blog
provides insight to government and information to citizens. Anyone can find information about
upcoming events from the LAPD website. People who visit these sites will view videos that
teach about PSAs, public information programs, and monthly messages from the police chief.
Here is a video that illustrates those street crimes caught on the cameras. Another advantage of
the Milwaukee Police Department is using crime mapping software. This is an appealing way of
crime reduction to the masses. The department also has a YouTube channel for training purposes.
That CCTV channel primarily broadcasts footage of crimes caught on CCTV cameras. This way,
the public is encouraged to identify potential suspects. The government department has various
social media platforms to publicize the site.
Conclusion
Police and security officers should use modern technologies to increase their efficiency in
maintaining law and order. The best method for combatting crime is community policing. Law
enforcement agencies should equip their Public Information Officers (PIOs) to use the best
technology. Governments can achieve more significant interaction with the public through social
networking sites, websites, blogs, and websites. There will be a significant impact on crime
prevention because of improved policing information.
