STEP 1a: MOST Appealing Approach to Classroom Management. Essay of at least 100 words. Cells will expand as you type.
The most appealing approach to classroom management for me would be a mix between inner discipline and assertive discipline. Inner discipline can take a little longer because we are trying to teach the student to develop accountablility and responsibility. By taking the time to correct a students behavior and guide them to their goals they will develop and establish routines and schedules. These form habits and help them establish the inner discipline. With assertive discipline you build a relationship with students and open communication by removing the authoritarian forcful aspect of discipline. This builds trust and strengthens the teacher/student relationship which then leads to positive classroom environment and growth. STEP 1b: LEAST Appealing Approach to Classroom Management. Essay of at least 100 words.
The least appealing approach to classroom management for me would be the self-discipline approach. This approach leaves all the responsibility on the students for their behavior, leaving them with no guidance or correction. Students need examples and guidance. They need a routine and schedule to help establish a pattern. By guiding them and addressing behavior and concerns they learn and grow and improve. Leaving them to self-discipline can have negative effects on the classroom climate and their academic growth. When children feel like they don’t know what to do they act out more. Students can be responsible but we must give them the tools and constant supervision as to how they use those tools. STEP 2a: Research Journal Article REFERENCE. Enter the reference for your article.

STEP 2b: Research Journal Article SUMMARY. Summary of at least 100 words.
In the article, “Classroom disruptions, the teacher-student relationship and classroom management from the perspective of teachers, students and observers”, I was able to determine that a study was conducted using questionnaires about behaviors in the classroom. Those questionnaires how teachers and students handled classroom disruptions, teacher-student relationships, and classroom management. Teachers felt that they are skilled in classroom management but find it hard to conduct a self-assessment of their skills or how they handle disruptions. Students felt they had the advantage to make observations about the classroom disruptions because they have more time to observe during instruction and from many teachers, not just one. STEP 2c: Article COMPARISON. In at least 100 words, compare research article with Lynch (2016) in Step 1. Comparing the article, “ Establishling order in your classroom: Five common approaches to classroom management” to the article “Classroom disruptions, the teacher-student relationship and classroom management from the perspective of teachers, students and observers”, we can see how each one of the five common approaches would be helpful or not helpful in managing classroom behavior. We

are able to read some classroom disruptions and apply one of the approaches to determine if it would be right for our classroom management
or our classroom climate. Both of these articles focus on behaviors within the classroom and ways teachers and students can approach them to find the right fit for them and to have success in the classroom.
STEP 3a: Case Study NUMBER. Enter below the number of your chosen case study. EXAMPLE: Case Study #8
Case Study #1
STEP 3b: Case Study ESSAY. Essay of at least 300 words.
The case study I chose is case study #1. In this scenario there are several approaches that can be used to address all the different areas in Tommy’s situation. The very first step would be to establish a plan and vision with tommy and his parents. Everyone needs to be on the same page with Tommy’s behavior, schedule, routine and academic goals. Once this plan is established I would find the learning style that works for him. Given the senerio and considering the environment, emotions, social setting and learing styles, I woul do a lot of individual work with him. We would do a lot of reading comprehension to learn new information because he is a great reader. We would practice writing and math in small group or one on one so he doesn’t feel embarasesed or rushed. Scolding Tommy or sending him to the office is not going to help is behavior. I feel that would expose him and embarase him. Establishing his trust and building a relationship with him will
help him feel safe and comfortable around me and if we had concerns arise with his medication or behavior we will discuss it in private and I
would give appropriate guidance for that sensitive area. My mindset would be of a growth mindset where I would be looking at new ways to help Tommy feel included and safe. Discussing families, siblings, sensitivities, setbacks and differences would be a normal everyday discussion I the class where the whole class feels heard and hopefully this will help normalized differences. As teachers we must meet the social and emotional needs of our students. How were approach them and these sensitive situations matter. With these approaches and changes and continually evaluating and making changes to grow with our classroom and behavior management, I know Tommy will succeed
and feel supported. STEP 3c: Case Study REFENCES. Lynch, Matthew. (2016). Establishling order in your classroom: Five common approaches to classroom management. The Edvocate. https://www.theedadvocate.org/establishing-order-classroom-five-common-approaches-classroom-management/
