A. Deafness is often referred to as the “invisible disability.” What does this mean? Do you agree or disagree with this opinion? Just because a disability seems invisible does not mean it does not exist. I think this means that deafness such as ADHD, Fibromyalgia, and Autism, among other diseases and conditions are little or not noticeable to people because there is nothing that visibly identifies them with said disease or condition. I agree that it is an "invisible disability" but I do not agree that it is not recognized as one for this reason. We must bear in mind that although we do not notice that someone has a disability, it does not give us the right to say or affirm that he/she does not suffer from it. B. Who benefits from captioning on television and movies? In your opinion, what are the benefits and drawbacks of captioning? Why do some places, such as airports resist installing captioning systems? What about movie theatres? Anyone who needs captioning on television and movies benefits from them. I do not see that the subtitles have any disadvantage instead it has many advantages. For example, Deaf/deaf people can obviously benefit because they cannot hear, and bilingual people who do not yet master a certain language can be made it easier to understand the new language by reading rather than listening to it. I really do not understand why some places, such as airports, resist installing captioning systems since there would be many people who benefit from them. The same happens with movie theaters because not installing subtitles is to be insensitive and unaware of the situation experienced by a certain minority part of the population that needs a different means of communication.
