Module 1
By taking these multiple assessments about my interests and learning profile, I feel I gained a better understanding of myself. These assessments were difficult for me because I tend to overanalyze every component, which takes me twice as long to complete. I especially struggled with the Interest-A-Lyzer assessment because the questions that were being asked, I had never really thought about before. This one took me the longest to complete and required an immense amount of reflecting and analyzing myself. I will be honest…it gave me a headache. I read the questions over and over, walked away multiple times, and sat and stared at the questions longer than I wanted to.
I was surprised with my results in the MI inventory because they were not what I expected. I scored highest in intrapersonal and interpersonal and then kinesthetic and logical tied for 3
rd
place. I assumed that I would score highest in kinesthetic or logical because I had taken the inventory years ago, but that was not the case this time. It is true that people are constantly changing which I believe is why my results differed from the last time I took the inventory.
I was also surprised by the results of the Myers-Briggs Inventory. For this assessment I scored equal on sensing and intuition, so that made it difficult to determine my exact 4 letter learning style. I went back to those questions on the inventory and re-
answered to see if I could get a better result in that category. The final verdict for my learning style was ENFJ, which is surprisingly only 2.4% of the population. The True Colors assessment took me a while since I was really analyzing each group of words and stressing over which one would be my 4, 3, 2, and 1. It was easier for
me to go through and put all my 4’s first and then go back to each row of words and figure out all of my 3’s, and then finish the 2 and 1 for each group last. Probably not the
way everyone else completed it, but it worked best for me. After completing, I scored myself and scored the highest in GOLD. Once I read all the information about GOLD, I totally agreed with that being my result since I do believe I am responsible, dependable, punctual, and realistic. This assessment turned out to be most interesting to me and made me curious about what my mom, dad, and brother would score, so I emailed the test and made them take the assessment. My mother scored the same as me, and my dad and brother both scored ORANGE. That explains a lot. Overall, I learned more information about myself as an individual, teacher, and student than I thought I would. These assessments reflected my style of teaching, work ethic, and the way that I run my classroom. I need stability in my classroom, not chaos, which is why my classroom has many routines, procedures, rules, and expectations for how the students are to perform and act. Chaos gives me anxiety, so I have found the best
way to avoid it is by having a very controlled work environment. These assessments could affect my teaching of gifted students because according to my results, I have routine way of doing things in my classroom, which could in some way hinder the growth
of gifted students by not allowing them the freedom they need in the classroom. I do have
3 gifted students in my classroom and do accommodate those students, which is why differentiation is so important. I would probably teach a lot differently and have different classroom routines, procedures, and expectations if I had a roomful of gifted students in order to best accommodate them for success.
