2 5-2 Journal Access to reliable transportation makes it possible for clients to connect with mental and physical health services/ providers. These visits are vital to maintaining and improving their health and overall quality of life. Currently, the transportation resources available to clients in the Saint Louis area include Missouri Healthnet Division’s Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (MHD NEMT) and Call-a-Ride , a service provided by Saint Louis’s public transportation service called Metro . MHD NEMT is free transportation available to people on Medicaid who do not have access to or are incapable of accessing public transportation and do not have friends or family members who are able to provide them with transportation. It can only be used for transport to and from appointments with providers who accept Medicaid; and the service cannot be used for transportation to/ from substance abuse programs or psychosocial rehabilitation services unless mandated to do so. (Gerloff, 2023). For Metro’s Call-a-Ride services, eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis and the cost is $2 per ride. For those eligible, this transportation service can be used for whatever they like, with the stipulation that the service only covers rides that would be accessible via traditional Metro busses or light rails. This service is also not direct, this bus ride is shared with other patrons and makes stops. (Metro, 2023). In order to make the biggest impact, support and collaboration from/with various parties will be needed. The primary stakeholders that will be invited to this presentation will be clients who face difficulties related to transportation services, administrative personnel from the transportation company and bus drivers. The secondary stakeholders will be social workers/ human services professionals, healthcare providers and interested community members.
3 5-2 Journal To build and maintain rapport within the presentation environment I plan on using inclusive language when addressing the audience, using words like “us” or “we” to create a sense of unity within the group. While presenting I will encourage audience engagement by asking questions and encouraging them to share their thoughts, ideas, and perspectives. Lastly, I will be mindful of my body language and eye contact and be sure to be mindful of my vocal qualities and how they could be received. To support understanding by all stakeholders I plan to use clear and concise language paired with relevant visuals. During the presentation I will pause when appropriate to probe for questions and will be sure to emphasize the main takeaways by either summarizing along the way or providing handouts to audience members.
