COM 402 Individual Project I Analysis of Gender Resources on Campus at CWU October, 22, 2022 There are various resources we can find about gender and sexuality topics at Central Washington University.   - Student Counseling Clinic  The counseling clinic offers 2LGTBTQ+ affirming services for identity exploration, coming out, working through traumatic impacts of oppression, discrimination, or hate crimes, and support of students during hormone therapy or other gender-affirming therapies or changes. - Housing and Residence Life  Housing offers two gender-inclusive living options, which means anyone can choose to live in a room or suite with anyone else regardless of gender. The Gender inclusive community, located in Moore Hall is committed to respecting community members' motivations for choosing this living option and supports inclusive and diverse initiatives within the community.   - Human Resources Central Washington University provides an environment that works to promote personal integrity, civility, and mutual respect in an inclusive environment free of sexual misconduct and discrimination. The university is also committed to helping those who feel that they may have experienced sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination.   - EQuAl- Equality through Queers and Allies EQuAl is a group on CWU’s campus that provides a safe and liberating space for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. This club provides resources, educational opportunities, and occasions to be around like-minded, welcoming people. They also table around the SURC for different campus events. - Diversity and Equity Center The Diversity and Equity Center (DEC) provides holistic student support, identity-based and cultural programs, and social justice workshops to cultivate a sense of belonging and the community at CWU and Beyond.   -  Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS).  It cultivates a critical awareness of the contribution of women and the impact of gender in our lives, both historically and in the contemporary world. WGSS provide an academic foundation for students planning careers in women’s and gender studies or related field. WGSS is an interdisciplinary program where students explore challenging and provocation questions about gender and sexuality. If You have any interest in pursuing these important questions then you can consider majoring or minoring in Women’s Gender and Studies. How do gender and sexuality shape our lives? How are the norms of masculinity and femininity developed, disseminated, and revised in various societies and cultures?
How do taken-for-granted understandings about gender and sexuality affect ideas about religion, race, nationality, beauty, education, and war? Why does the history of influential figures in politics, philosophy, business, education, the arts, literature, and natural science seem to be populated almost entirely by men? Is this accurate? What would a just and inclusive world look like? The program emphasizes critical thinking in addressing the intersexuality of sex, gender, class, race, sexuality, ethnicity, and culture and their impact on people’s experiences and the society in which we live.   - Black Student Union (BSU) The Black student union serves as an expressive medium to educate, celebrate, unify, and share Afro/African/Black Culture within CWU. As an organization, they want to foster a fun and safe environment that engages students to discuss issues affecting the community and the surrounding members to take action; whether it be external or internal. They also engage in activities like workshops, study nights, feeding the homeless in Seattle, Parade of Nations, etc. Some of these activity does not require registration whereas some require reservations. To be very honest, I had no idea that CWU had so many clubs and resources where we can find help in the time of need. I learned that all these different groups were created like EQuAl, Black Student Union, etc. So, people feel more comfortable sharing their stories of discrimination, and hatred toward their people, because they act as a backbone to support them. They provide consultation and councils to help them overcome their stories and move forward. Along with this they also celebrate themselves. They organize various events around campus to familiarize themselves and let people know what they represent. All these clubs and resources around campus are created for a respectable environment around the campus premises and also to provide safety for students. If you go  to https://www.cwu.edu/   you can find access to all these clubs and resources we have around campus and everyone can learn about the resource center which is a plus point if a student wants to transfer to CWU they can find how diverse CWU is and all the resource that might help them sustain their 4 years in College is a great thing to discover about. I can resemble this quote very much “life is not always rainbows and butterflies” As college students, we go through various struggles in our life. It might be stress from studies, families, finance, etc. While on those low days of life these resources are helpful.  All these college resources are easy to find but one thing I know that needs improvement is the counseling center as it is so hard to get an appointment to talk to them and sometimes, they only send you an email saying do this or that might help. It is not a solution for someone who is in desperate need of help. So maybe hiring more counselors, and providing more flexible time for students would be great for the student who requires help. If I talk about gender then I am happy to see that we have a course related to WGSS but what about the men who face the same about of gender discrimination daily? By the information provided on the webpage, I felt that the studies focused more on women only.
