Module Six Question 1
Describe the narrative path that you plan to take. For example, do you plan to start by describing the social science issue and ultimately lead the audience to the logic as to why
they should care? Do you plan to open with your research question? Do you plan to use an overarching analogy? Do you think the narrative of your presentation will work best
as a single story or as a series of examples?
As you continue working on Project Two, you may choose to structure your presentation differently. You can always edit this response later!
My approach to initiating the project involves crafting an engaging introduction that resonates with the reader, captivating their attention from the outset. I intend to begin by presenting my research question, prompting the reader to delve into contemplation. Subsequently, I'll transition seamlessly to the core essence of my project, furnishing the audience with pertinent and valuable insights.
Module Six Question 2
In your opinion, was this TED Talk engaging? Did you want to keep listening? Why or why not? Make special note of any times you felt lost or confused while viewing the presentation or trying to follow along with any technical concepts Ornish used to explain his work.
I found it difficult to connect with the TED talk. The speaker's rapid pace and constant shifting between topics left me feeling lost and disengaged. Consequently, I struggled to maintain focus and found myself attempting to simultaneously read and listen, which only added to my frustration.
Module Six Question 3
After listening to the talk, do you feel personally connected to the issue? Why or why not? If you were on a committee of people determining whether to approve funding for Ornish's work, would you agree to provide him more funding? Why or why not?
I didn't feel a personal connection to the issue being discussed. While observing the speaker's presentation, I wasn't impressed. The information provided didn't meet my expectations, and the speaker covered a broad range of topics within a single TED talk. I struggled to interpret the images and graphs properly, and the visibility of the words was insufficient for easy reading. If I were on the committee responsible for approving funding for Ornish's work, I would likely hesitate to support it due to the presentation's inability to convey the necessary
information effectively. The vision images and graphs presented left me feeling very confused.
Module Six Question 4
Now think about your own presentation. Of course, you are not finished constructing the presentation; however, consider what you have done so far. At this stage you have finished two slides, the narrative structure and elements, the description of the social science issue, and an appeal to the audience as to why they should care.
Provide yourself some honest feedback. What areas of your presentation need the most work? How do you plan to adjust your presentation so that you communicate your research effectively?
I aim to enhance my presentation by keeping it straightforward and concise, ensuring that my audience can easily grasp my work. I want them to comprehend it effortlessly without having to exert much mental effort. Integrating relevant images and graphs will help convey my message effectively and represent my work more accurately. Additionally, I strive to foster clear and seamless communication with my audience.
