Help US Save THE LAW COURTS Inn
Vancouver, British Columbia — The Law Courts Inn, a popular event venue and café inside the Vancouver
venue, is under threat of closure as the BC Ministry of Citizens' Services seeks to reconfigure it into Judiciary
offices. Despite our efforts, the government did not commit to a consultation plan some time ago, and our lease
expired on September 30, 2020. We have chosen to reverse this decision and seek public support to maintain
this well-known open space.
Arthur Erickson's Law Courts Inn was originally intended to be an open area within the courtroom complex. Its
stunning view overlooking an infinite lake has made it a popular gathering place for legal professionals and the
community. We firmly believe that this open area should remain accessible to everybody.
Sergio Gonzalez, Managing Director of The Law Courts Inn, emphasizes the necessity of preserving this
foundation: "The Law Courts Inn remains viable, even in times of social distancing." The decision to turn it into
offices was decided without any engagement with parties who have a vested interest in its future. We are
prepared to negotiate a new lease to assure the Inn's continuing operation."
Speaking to the Law Courts Inn, the Lawyers Inn Society is dedicated to finding a solution that will fill this
critical free space. We encourage all concerned individuals to read a letter from our president, Adam Howden-
Duke, for specific information on our ongoing efforts and the relevance of the Law Courts Inn.
As we seek to keep the Law Courts Inn open for business, we ask British Columbians to support us. Together,
we were able to send a powerful message to the BC Ministry of Citizens' Services, pushing them to reconsider
their decision and engage in an important community dialogue.

Duke, President of the Lawyers Inn Society.
