1. At this point, you should have picked a topic and identified an audience. Identify the topic and audience: A. What is the problem you will be working on? The problem we will be working on is the lack of availability of housing on campus and the lack of affordable housing off campus. B. Why is the problem important? This problem is important because there are students who want or need housing on campus, such as my roommate from last year, who aren’t able to get it. Furthermore, prices of housing surrounding USF (off campus) are not affordable or available to many students. C. Who is your audience? Our audience is USF students to bring awareness to the issue but more so USF’s administration and the county/city departments that have more ability to make change. D. Why is the audience appropriate for solving the problem? This audience is important to solving our problem because, as I said, USF administration and county/city departments have the proper resources and connections to make a larger impact and change this issue. 2. Discuss what you have done so far on your problem statement: A. What is the scope of your topic? Our scope is USF’s campus and the surrounding area (within 10-15 minutes’ drive) B. What is the local context? The local context is that the pricing of housing in Tampa is already extremely high, and this issue is expanded around USF campus because the demand for housing is increased by the large number of students wanting to live in the surrounding area with a lack of housing availability C. What causes have you identified?
Some causes we have identified are general inflation, failing economy, USF is accepting too many students, lack of housing availability. D. Who are the people most impacted by this issue? USF students and the surrounding community 3. What’s up next? (List specific actions/tasks scheduled for upcoming completion. For each task, list the date the task is due and who is responsible for the task.) This weekend we will delegate the roles of what each of us will be researching. We will be clear on what solutions we should be focusing on and what our research will look like. We will then figure out who is writing what and begin drafting our individual sections. From there we will review each other’s drafts and figure out things to improve them. We will keep revising until we reach our final product. 4. Any issues? (List specific issues that are slowing the progress of the project.) One of our group members has failed to reach out to us or contribute to the project at all. 5. How are you resolving the issue(s)? (List specific actions being taken to resolve any issues and who is responsible for their resolution.) I will be reaching out to Dr. Basso shortly on behalf of our group to inform her of the issue and go from there. 6. Champ of the week! (Did anyone go above and beyond to achieve this week’s goals? If so, how.) I am happy with both Christopher and Alejandro for their contributions this week, we have formed a group chat and have been collaborating together well on the assignments. They have both contributed to the assignments, have good input, and are kind and respectful.
