Week 6 Class Activity: Drafting a Contract
Student Instructions
You will be divided into groups of three or four (your Week 6 group). In groups, please read the following instructions, prepare your contract, and insert your contract in the separate Week 6 Class Activity Responses document found on the Canvas - Assignments Page
. Your group is tasked with creating a standard contract for your client, Mr. Johnson Hardwick, and determining if the contract meets all requirements of legality. Please refer to the Week 6 assigned videos and readings to inform your approach.
You will need to integrate your knowledge about the elements required in a contract (from the Week 6 assigned videos and reading) with the information you are provided below to draft an actual legal document.
First, locate sample sales contracts online by visiting a website of your choosing to locate an actual sample contract for the sale of a puppy. There are many such websites available.
Based on your findings, you should then create a contract for the sale of a puppy using the terms and conditions provided in the facts below.
Your goal is to draft a
legal contract with terms to which both the buyer and the seller agree.
Facts:
Imagine Mr. Johnson Hardwick’s beloved German Shepherd dog, Sonja, has just given birth to a litter of pure
‐
bred puppies. Mr. Hardwick would like to sell the puppies for $2,000 each. Mr. Hardwick knows he needs to have each buyer sign a contract so that there will be no misunderstandings in the future.
Mr. Murray Shusterman wants to buy one of Mr. Hardwick’s puppies named Champ. Mr.
Shusterman eventually intends to show this dog in the ring and wants Mr. Hardwick’s guarantee that the dog will do well and win prizes. Mr. Shusterman insists that he will not buy the puppy unless Mr. Hardwick can guarantee him that the puppy will win prizes. Mr. Hardwick insists that Mr. Shusterman guarantee that Champ be kept in appropriate conditions for his health and welfare and should not be neglected in any way.
Create a contract in which Mr. Hardwick sells one of the pure

‐
