CHCCOM005 - Assignment 1 What you have to do The assignment for the unit CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services has ten (10) descriptive answer questions covering all the elements of this unit of competency. Type your answers in the fields provided. Save your answers in this document then submit via the OLS. You may need to refer back to your learning resource. Question1. What do you understand by verbal and non-verbal communication? List feedback for both. verbal is the spoken form of communication to be able to get massages across. This form of communication is good as it is direct and gets the message across quickly. Non verbal communication is body language, facial expressions and sign language. This form of communication can be good and bad it does go hand in hand with verbal communication but your body language can be misinterpreted by the other person at times and come across the wrong way. Question 2 What is effective listening and how it can be used to communicate better with people from health services background? Being attentive to the conversation and actively absorbing the information given to you by the other person, showing that you are interested and listening, providing feedback so the other person knows the message was received. This can be used in the healthcare sector by paying attention to what is being said, approach the situation with an open mind and construct your answers accordingly. Question 3 List the main strategies to collaborate with colleagues in the workplace. - create a positive work environment - listen to, clarify and agree to timeframes for carrying out workplace tasks -use industry terminology correctly in all ways being verbal, written or digital communication -follow all communication protocols that apply to interactions between different people and lines of authority -make lines of communication known between staff in the organisation and other services. Provide an example of how you have witnessed or managed a conflict situation in your workplace. -clarify the problem -Establish a common goal for both parties - Discuss ways to meet those goals - list any potential barriers that would prevent a resolution - both parties agree on a way to resolve the problem - record mutual acknowledgement of the solution and what is required from both parties to attain the outcome 2 workers wanted to do things their own way and would argue that their own ways were right they had to sit down with management and both have input on how to complete this certain task and both had to agree on a new way using both their ideas they both signed off that they agreed to try it and re assess in a month to see if the new way was working. Question 8 Name at least 4 workplace documents that you have used at your current or previous workplace. Have you completed those documents manually or electronically? fire safety- manual form to evaluate fire safety standards incident reports- these have been completed manually and electronically Employment agreeements- both manually and electronically workplace training- electronically Question 9 What is your understanding of Unethical conduct? unethical conduct in the workplace is when someone is not adhering to professional ethics and their behaviour is putting clients and staff at risk. Question 10 Your steriliser has failed with instruments that were needed for the next case. -stay calm -explain the situation - let them explain their frustrations and let them be heard while actively listening to them -have the conversation in a quiet area or office - come up with alternatives if available while waiting for the instruments -brainstorm with her and see if she has any suggestions to reasolve the issue so she is included in the process -involve management if a solution cant be agreed upon or if there are other contraints to finding a soluition.
