Globalization and technology developments have led to some significant changes in the global economy. Discuss the importance of such changes to the United States. What is the impact upon supply chains? (page 6) In the 1990s many possible successful companies did not survive due to the fact they didn’t choose to adapt and change. Supply and demand has been more volatile (page 8), for various reasons of ISIS attacks as well as pirates attacking cargo ships, that doing has added difficulty for the commerce flow, causing companies to spend more on security. Technology was the biggest and best impact on the marketplace, as it caused major change into adaptation but once used to it, instantly you have the best tool in the palm of your hand from being “connected 24/7” there was no such thing as waiting for information anymore. Which lead to higher customer demand. 2. Supply chains encompass four flows. Describe the four flows, and why are they important? How are they related to each other? Product, -the physical movement of goods and materials, information- decision making, supply chain collaboration, and enabling physical flow of products, cash- management of working capital ,demand – detect and understand demand signals, synchronize demand vs supply they all function similarly to one organization to satisfy the customer 3. Consumers are considered to have much more influence in the marketplace today. What factors have led to this “empowered consumer” situation? How has this factor changed supply chains in the last 15 to 20 years? Will this influence continue? Technology has been the big empowered consumer. Anyone now can be enlightened and persuaded to buy anything from being “connected” to the internet all day they have any information they want in the palm of their hand’s consumers can now order anything they want instantly leading to the increased demands in any variety of products and services. (page 10) “Consumers now have the opportunity to compare prices, quality, and service.” The influence will continue and grow as everyone will continue to be connected looking for the reports of the best likes and dislikes on the internet.

4. The consolidation that has developed at the retail end of many supply chains has had an important impact. What changes have occurred in supply chain management because of retail consolidation and the related power shift? Lot sizes have increased since orders are now mostly in bulk, service levels increased 5. Why is information so important in supply chains? What are the challenges to the successful development and implementation of effective information? What is the role of technology and information management? i information can be a powerful tool if used correctly with the right tools and correct managgemtn behind the accuracy 6. Describe the three phases of the evolution of the supply chain concept 7. Describe the major challenges and issues facing supply chain in the future? 8. Collaboration is a very critical ingredient for successful supply chains. Why? What types of collaboration are important? What are some of the challenges and issues that need to be addressed? 9. Please work on the case 1.1: LEHIGH VALLEY TRANSPORT AND LOGSTICS SERVICES (LVTLS). Answer the questions.
