Dimensional Analysis Project
Purpose:
Measurement is the most common use of numbers in our everyday lives. In your assigned module
readings, you have seen a variety of units in English system, more commonly used in the United States, and the
Metric system used by the rest of the world.
When gathering information, it is often necessary to convert between units in order to interpret the information. The
purpose of this assignment is to practice this skill by planning a road trip.
Assignment Goal
: Convert units for physical quantities measuring length, weight, capacity, currency, and
temperature.
Instructions:
For this project, you are to plan a hypothetical road trip. The trip should be within the continental United
States; a destination within 500 miles that you can drive to from your current location.
You must show all work and
demonstrate the dimensional analysis in order to receive full credit

Part B Written Response
Think about your hypothetical trip within the United States. A major trip involves additional costs other than gas. Type
a short response to the questions below. Enter your response after the bullet point.
●
Discuss how many days you will spend at your destination. Why? Does this include the days to travel to and
from the destination?
I plan to spend 2 days in Sandusky, OH and that includes traveling to and from
Cadillac, MI.
●
Discuss at least two other specific travel-related expenses (besides gas) and how each of these expenses
might impact the total cost of the trip.
When traveling long distances you get hungry so you need to eat. You
decide to spend money on fast food and for four people it costs about $50. If you decide you want a
souvenir for the memories that can cost anywhere from $10-50 depending on what you get.
●
Discuss how much money you should budget for the time you are at your destination. How much will you
budget for travel days? How did you come up with these amounts?
I think that for my two day trip we should
budget around $500 for travel and at the destination I’d say $100 is plenty enough for gifts and souvenirs. I
just rounded up the cost of gas to be $240 which saves you money to get food on the road and any other
travel mispaps like a flat tire or needing a tow and I just think that you should’t bring more than $100 to
spend on gifts or souvenirs.
