Crooks 1 Logan Crooks 20 September 2023 POLSC 150 Professor McCormick W02 Article Analysis Title: How Academia Failed the Nation Primary Point: All of us try to expertise in training those here to help us in a bad situation. However, when we needed them and the academics to help them out it did not turn out well. Key Points: 1. Our education did not provide enough knowledge and skill to the citizens about other countries and groups outside of America. Right now, it is still happening because there has been a decline in our regional studies. 2. Another big reason why we are failing in academia is our Economics and Political Science. Since they provide ways to apply one situation across many other countries all over the globe. 3. The current situation that we are focused on right now is the “math or game theory,” which will not help us out in the end. However, we should focus more on religion, ethics, and the leaders in different countries all over the globe. Agree or Disagree?: I feel like I am in the middle on this one because we can not predict on what outcome will happen in the future. However, if this attack would not have happened, we would have never learned of this situation at all. Something did get my attention when the author said, “We don’t need math or game theory; what we need is an up-to-date understanding of the ethnic, religious, and tribal structure of the country, knowledge of who the figures of authority are.” I believe the author made a strong point in this because if we do not understand more about the social structure and the society of other countries then we will be missing a big part of the country itself.
